Description First off, I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Years, since I haven't posted recently! I was working on some more substantial things before, but I've been playing a fun little MMORPG called Rusty Hearts lately and I got Skyward Sword for Christmas, which immediately reminded me that I don't accomplish dick when someone puts video games in front of my face....

Anyway, here's some sketch poop of my Italian Renaissance OCs, Dante and Andrea, since I tweaked their designs a little and I needed to do some older versions of them as well. I decided recently that I wanted to incorporate a big fat time jump into their story of about 10 years or so. In the upper left is Andrea in his early 20's and in his early 30's on the right. On the bottom level is Dante at the same two ages. He's supposed to be a military man, which is how he ends up losing his left eye when he's older. Ugh, I'm really trying not to make Andrea look like a girl with relatively little success... and that freaking Disney princess dress of a doublet I drew on him in the older version isn't doing him any favors.

I'm hoping at some point to write a decent historically themed BL with the two of them and to avoid all of the awful cliches
and poor writing pitfalls that seem to plague the genre. I may write a more in-depth journal on the matter later.

This is not poop. It is lovely. Will you add colors or just leave it b&w?

Thank you~ I just meant for this to be design reference, so I'll probably leave it as it is, but I'll hopefully do some finished color work of them soon enough.

Gosh they're all such beautiful designs! I love how the characters have changed as they got older and yet you can still tell it's the same person (just like in real life ). The designs of the outfits and the details on them are gorgeous - the creases in the material and decorative designs are just perfect. The way you draw hair makes it look so soft as well. I'm particularly in love with how you've drawn they're eyes though.
I think a historically themed BL would be superb! You really should write one - I'd definitely read it, especially with these two beautiful characters. ^-^

Thank you so much~

I hope the change is noticeable enough. In retrospect, I chose kind of a bad age range though, since there's not a super dramatic shift in features from 20 to 30. Haha, I'm actually proud of myself for bothering to give the two of them differently shaped and sized eyes. XD

And, well, I love history and I love gay dudes, so I figure the two should just go swimmingly together. XD The story's still very much in its infancy, but I think it's off to a good start and I'd really like to make a project of it at some point.

No problem~

And it is noticeable though I agree there isn't much change within that age range. Adding different styles of eyes really brings out their characters.

They would go swimmingly together! I really think you should make it a project~

I like the older Andrea the most (out of the four). The younger one doesn't look much younger to me, rather slightly more feminine and alot less smug. But I really don't know which age tokens are compatible with your style (cheeks/eyes more round, smaller nose/mouth?).
I like their hands, and the clothes are all cool, except that dipping belt, which looks unnaturalistic to me (I don't sew at all, but my mother's good at that).

Thank you~

I usually go with wider eyes and rounder cheeks, which often comes off as girly in my style. I have to force myself to push the youthful features on him a little more.

You know, I've seen that sort of belt around on other character designs and I like the shape, but I don't know how well it would actually function in reality.

Nice linework! I actually like your sketch style in particular because your heaviest edges are noticeably rougher, adding more personality and flow to your characters.

Fav'ed.

Aww, thank you so much, Kevin! I need to work on my line quality like whoa in my inked stuff though, because it's borderline illegible sometimes. DX

Oh my goodness, NO!! Andrea doesn't look like a girl, he just looks hot ^//^;; His older self caught my attention immediately, and I love it ^^ He looks like a duke with a lot of power, a lot of money, and a lot of free time

These are wonderful ^^ I envy your ability to make rough-looking men T^T (Dante)

Thank you! I'm glad you think so. I think his older version is... adequately masculine(maybe); it's his younger self that's edging on girly. XD Wow, you pretty much have him pegged. He's got too money and influence on his hands and no real need or want for it. Good call!

And thanks! I actually really like Dante's design, which is why I didn't change it too much for the older version. XP Though he still kind of looks like a poof despite the facial hair and overall angularity...

Hehe....poof. I love that word. It's on the same level as "fop" X3 I'm sure he'd take a turn for the utterly huntsman-esque if his hair was up ^~^

.... Oh man. OH MAN. Have you ever had his hair up?!! ((I'm sorry, I've got a thing for guys with ponytails ....And I'm sorry!!! These character designs are wonderful, I don't think they need any improvements >///<))

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Meiseki In reply to criscura [2012-01-10 23:03:17 +0000 UTC]

Haha, both are great words. He's pretty foppish too, to be sure. XD You know, I was actually thinking of having his hair pulled back at times on the older version. I love a man with a ponytail too. It would make sense for him to tie it back when he's going into battle and whatnot anyway. I have to draw him with his hair ruffled too since he usually has his bangs sort of swept back.
