I love the Mongol or perhaps Turkic/Hunnic influence

Unfortunately the Noldor became prejudiced against the Easterlings because of Uldor and others of his ilk. Still I like Bor and his clan because they were proof that all Men could see the Light and desire it, and turn away from Darkness. I do like the Eastern motifs, since it seems that the Easterlings of that time had only recently come to Beleriand and had not yet taken to copying the Elves yet in dress and armament. The fur-trimmed cloaks are both fashionable and practical, since winters could be fierce, and TOlkien intimated that the Dark Lords and their chief servants could extend or heighten winter weather.

For my money the most admirable characters at The Battle of Tears Unnumbered, right up there with Hurin and Huor; when faced with the ruin of all others hopes and the chance of turning coat to save their own skins, they held by their chosen master and died hewing down the greatest betrayer of that treacherous day.

I always had a softspot for Bor and his sons. Courageous and trustworthy. Too bad they get so little attention.

Love the ancient Middle Eastern (Babylonian, Egyptian) look of their helmets and armor...

Wow dude, that's pretty rockin. And I have to say I think this is the first time I have ever seen anyone try to draw the easterlings. I always pictured them as somewhat Asian looking myself. Great job.

A fine rendition of a criminally under-illustrated group of characters in Tolkien's universe. The attention to detail is superb, i only feel that they lack a distinctively middle-earth touch to raise them out of the kind of 'mongol/slavic' image.

This is so lively... They look very real, real characters. And the shading and costume details are awesome!

I admit I am biased, because I re-read Silmarillion (and the Lord of the Rings, and Unfinished Tales, and the Hobbit) last summer, and I look with a particularly friendly eye at anything that evokes Tolkien's universe.
I am also biased, because I like your work very much.
That said, your depictions of the Feanorians, along with this one of Bor and his sons, fit perfectly with the mood I have for these characters. They have a feel of an old and distant Europe (for lack of a better way of describing it), with a certain weight in their countenance and bearing, which I often miss in the various illustrations I come across.

Gives me shivers (of admiration)!
Of course, Bor and his sons are initially from the Silmarillion, but they are only mentioned there. That's why this picture reminds me rather of Russian fanfiction novel "Beyond the Dawn" by Olga Brileva (Chigirinskaya): their "ethnographic" looks and personalities seem very close to the characters described in it (there's a lot of details in this book about Bor and the way of life of Easterlings).
Have you seen the illustrations to the Silmarillion and Beyond the Dawn by on DeviantArt?
