really depend on your budget. The cheaper ones ($10-20) will be ok for just playing around. They loose sharpness with anything more than a 50mm lens typically. I get most of my stuff from b and h. [link]
you can go there and select what size you need.
To balance the sky to a normal/good looking level, use a 2 stop. To give the 'hdr' look use 3 stops. I'm guessing you have the kit lens, based on your photo exif data (creep stalker lol) so it looks like your options are 1 or 2 stop. 3 stop is for lenses with 72mm filter threads and higher (on b&h at least) there's always ebay though.
If you want top quality go for one made of schott glass. B+W is one of the top brands for any filter.
Bottom line, get whatever you can afford and get out there and shoot!

awesome, you will love the 50. I have a 50mm f1.4 that I use for a lot of my stuff. There's not much difference between 1.4 and 1.8.
Yup, studying film making. My emphasis is of course on the camera/lighting. Currently in a cinematography class, learning a lot, even though I've been through photo school. Lots of new stuff to learn when it comes to film making.
I totally want a 10 stop nd filter. Have you seen the shots you can get with one of those? 15-30 sec exposures in bright sun. o.O I see some of your photos have some nice long exposures.

i haven't done it yet, but have you heard of painting with light? as your camera is sitting there you can flash a big light on the rocks real fast and it will show up in your photo!!! i had gotten a DVD about photos and that was in there.
