It makes more sense that Superman would be the one wearing trunks and Batman wearing the belt but whatever. Pretty good!

I know but Batman seemed to be the one who ditched the trunks earlier. And I think Superman has just started wearing trunks again.

Actually from what I remember aquaman was first. In jla in 97, by this point superman had ditched them earlier in the 90s with the black suit but that was only temporary. In 97/98 he ditched them again with superman red and blue. At this point batman still wore trunks but they were the same colour as his suit but still clearly drawn in. Oddly its like they had to put them in but didn't want to, seriously read the first few issues of jla run in 97, you'll be shocked at how little batman is featured and when he is they go out of their way to obscure his crotch haha.
They weren't officially ditched by Bruce batman until 2011 before that Azrael took over and ditched them but again his career was short lived. Funny thing is by the writers own admission they.. well, at least superman has never wore trunks. It was a decorative design. The suit was a one piece.

Oh definitely in the movies. I think right from Tim Burton's. I love how they tried to turn them into mid rise briefs in Superman Returns haha underwear is underwear.
