Description I get itchy sometimes and have to paint portraits. This one I did to prove something to myself. I love learning exercises.

Painter IX, several hours.

I video screencapped myself painting this. You can watch the YouTube video here: [link]

Wonderful! I love his green eyes! They stand out so well against all the dark. And watching you do it is fascinating. I also like how you put a freckle/mole on his forehead and neck. So many times people draw people without those little "imperfections". Nice!

I especially like the way he's slightly cocking the one eyebrow in a rakish way. Nice indeed!

I would be forever grateful. I love watching artists as they work to see how they handle shading, layers, etc.

ANd this is fan-frikkin-tastic. I adore the eyebrow. Totally a, "...Oh really?" moment.

the thing that i like the most is all the little details thar make it believable, like the shadow of facial hair.

Well, I took some Epilogue criticism to heart a long time ago. When doing portraits, it's the details that will make or break you.

Especially with men, I think. If you *don't* include the details, they tend to look too perfect, too pretty and feminine. It's the stray eyebrow hair, the beard scruff, the freckles and things like that that convince you.

BEAUTIFUL bones! And the skintones rock! So believable! Who is he?

Him? He's pretty.

Nobody really. Just had an itch to do a portrait.

Hmm .. is it just me or does he look a little like Tom Hanks?? Great work!

Tom Hanks? Really?

As I was painting him I thought he started out looking like Heath Ledger, then he looked a little like a young Robert Sean Leonard, and now I think he's a little bit Christian Slater...

Even if he's not really any of them.

Yes. I think more so in the small thumbnail than up close. Perhaps it's the brow. I don't know now - isn't that strange
