Description Well, after my portfolio review by [get this] the same teacher who was my figure drawing professor at SCAD last summer- I realized my portfolio is FAR from over. I hope to add this- and more like it- to my portfolio to show my ability to design with purpose and interact with the negative space.

AAAAAANYWAY, I really did like doing this alot- and I like the feeling behind it, even if it is rather vague even to me- but it leaves the room for interpretation I intended.

So, tell me, you like?

EDIT: Thanks to 's AWESOME critique, I have officially improved on this piece by replacing the old eye with an egyption eye symbol. I kept it blue though, because the blue eye is significant to my vision for this piece.

Great work, the only things I can truly think of to help this piece is that I say be a bit more careful with the grunge, it kind of consumes the picture and is borderline distracting to the piece. Also the forms are good for general understanding but it took me a couple minutes to get the meaning because it was kind of hard to interpret the little boy as African American upon first glance, perhaps you could find a way to make it just a bit more apparent. One more thing, (Not to sound as though I have any room to talk you and I both know my stuff isn't very good, I'm basing this off just pure opinion from seeing professional works.) the eye seems a bit out of place, it seems too complicated and I think it needs to be a tad bit more simple to fit the piece something like an Egyptian eye instead, perhaps? Anyway really cool piece, I love the symbolism, and besides these few things it's really a great piece!

Thank you VERY much Lindsey. I LOVE you for this critique- it's very fair, well-thought-out, and makes perfect sense to me, but most importantly to me- it's specific- which makes it helpful.

I completely agree about the eye- I'm glad you brought that up, as I was thiiis close to changing it from the start- thanks for giving me that last kick-in-the-pants to get going.
Also, I hope you'll understand when I tell you that I believe I'll keep the grunge, I have been considering what you are saying closely, but all the same- it loses something for me regardless of which layer I remove.

I didn't mean completely get rid of it. I meant maybe move it around where there are not such huge chunks over the image, I like the grunge! I don't think it could look better without it! I was only saying that some of it kind of eats away the image instead of giving it the feel I thought you were going for. 0.o

Loves you toos! :3

Ooh! Ooh! I got it!

Big corporations are exploiting our world's natural resources and the only thing that us innocent, powerless bystanders can do is stand back and watch? But maaaybe the eye on the balloon is pointing in the opposite direction so we're really just trying not to notice? Hrm...

I dunno.

ANYWAY. This comment is long overdue. Like, months overdue. This piece is awesome and deep and quite unlike anything I've ever seen you post before. You are really going out of your comfort zone and trying new things! I think it's super cool when people do that. So you are super cool.

That's a really cool interpretation that I've never thought of!

But if you're wondering what it means to ME, I actually took it alot deeper/more general than even that.

D'aww you flatter me. I'M the one who's supposed to be in awe of YOU and YOUR super coolness.

And I agree with the person's suggestion; the Egyptian Eye (Which--interestingly enough--is sometimes associated with the sun) really DOES fit the piece a little better. ^^
