Description Model: Melissa Sigalovskaya
Photographer: Ivan G Easton III

From time to time I find myself in front of the camera. Sometimes It's just easier to model yourself.

Taken in Narragansett , RI. There is some kind of stone structure out there on the beach. The ocean is right behind me in this shot. Great place for photos.

It's like they say, people only act when they're backed into a corner. This pose shows a model afraid, coiled, tense. Also bound and determined, waiting to spring.

Nice to see you infront of a camera, every now and then .

the pose and expression are very well done, and really add to the metaphor of the "box". you don't see too many posed shots that don't look really fake. nice job.

I like the layout and composition of the shot. Doesn't look like the most comfortable pose but it makes for a good shot.

yup, i like that. positioning and stuff. the expression on the face means so much to the picture as well (imagine a smile like u wanna be boxed o.0). great work here!

I would especially like to thank these two artists for understanding this piece perfectly! I sure was'nt comfortable when I was posing for this picture. It was very cold at the ocean that day and this was a diffcult pose to hold. I was trying to look vulnerable, cold, trapped and yet strong, maybe determined. Thank you to everyone for the comments. It is very helpfull and insightfull.

Best Wishes~ Melissa Sigalovskaya

I'm surprised with this being featured it hasn't recieved more comments...

Nonetheless, I like the image compositionally, although I think I would have done it at a higher angle, with less of a 3d feel and more of a 2d, straight on look into that window, if it were possible.

I do have to admit that the first thing I noticed was the the pose looked fake, but I imagine that was due to having to set a self-timer, then run up and climb into that window before it took the shot. This would give you very little time to adjust your pose, and of course, there's always the fact that you couldn't really see what you looked like and probably imagined yourself looking totally different than what you see here. And I can imagine just saying "fuck it!" after having to go through this ordeal more than a few times. Hehe.

That's why we need assistants who will work for free.

I just like everything about this photo, almost minmalist, just the rocks and the lady, caged or framed kind of feel, and some kind of desolation in the background.

Personally I like the rocks best. The texture of them. Reminds me of an old castle... or an elaborate fireplace...

lovely!
i see it as an expression of mixed feelings/attitudes/signals... you look vulnerable, yet relaxed.... on display yet secret. also, to me it looks as if u belong with the wall, as if ur grounded and rooted just like the wall is (as compared to the open sky), yet only when contrasted to the sky itself. it reminds me of poetry and how it works on different levels depending on how u look at it.... great shot, it is very deserving of the dD... my hat is off to u.

It very much deserves a Daily Deviation because it's an extraordinary photography and when I look at it, I don't get the impression that I've seen something similar before (as with many things that get posted here). Beautiful...

I dont think the model was going for comfort display on this one, maybe its intended not to let you see her face, make it a bit more general, as if to say it may be applied to not only her, but maybe to how a lot of people might feel.

you get a very particular feeling when you see the girl on the photograph, it looks like she`s cold, tense, vulnerable; i would say scared but the fact that her legs are tensed up, and her bare feet make her seem more independant than really scared.

-note- if you flip the picture on its side, it totally changes the perspectives on the girl, she begins to seem more relaxed and layed back.

this one is definitely going into my faves

To contrast with what chinpau said, I think that the model's (your) hidden face and unnatural pose add to this piece. It gives the distinct taste (er, feel) of uncomfort that we get from being boxed in - and we often hide (e.g, hidden face).

I like it. It does have a primitive feel, but we are at our most primitive when we are trapped.

chinpau [2003-01-06 07:55:11 +0000 UTC]

Nice natural framing but I dislike the pose:

1 - can't see models face
2 - not flattering to her figure (has to tense leg too much)
3 - very unnatural (she looks uncomfortable and straining to stay like that, would look much better in a more comfortable-to-hold pose)
