I agree! As long as we avoid any name that can be found in a toy store. I think Emperors of Known Space should have to work a little harder than "pink fluffy kitten" and "candy cane unicorn".

The books are the Culture books by Iain M. Banks. Ed is a big fan. I'm a less big fan, but Banks does write well.
