If Pearl had a spine it would be breaking. XD

Not gonna lie, that comment is extremely rude.

Erm . . . well I personally think it's "rude" that many mainstream art styles disfigure womens' bodies in highly specific ways for highly specific reasons.

See a few pages on the Tumblr account boobsdontworkthatway to see what I mean.

We can pretend you're trying to teach me about sexism by making jabs at my art but we both know that's not the case.  Nothing about this image is sexual, so the insinuation that I have "disfigured" a woman for my own sexual gratification is a stretch to say the least.  Your original comment says absolutely nothing of value in terms of being concerned about the sexualization of women, nor is it a helpful art critique.  You are just embarrassed I called you out on leaving an unhelpful, rude, unnecessary comment.

If you think Pearl's posture or her "breaking spine" is intended to be sexual I can link you to a plethora of ballerina images of real women in much more dramatic postures than this, as she is depicted as a dancer, not a sex object.

Like people who have passively absorbed cultural things, you have absorbed a certain convention of drawing anatomy. I'm in no way trying to say you intentionally invoke sexism or sexuality in general. It's just nice to be aware of where things come from. *shrug*

Oh, I'm sorry I didn't jump immediately into a lecture. Next time I'll get on that sooner. 9_9 It's not carefully worded critique, no, it was actually meant to be  *entirely* humorous *because* gems don't have spines!! That's the joke! But then you had to get all serious, so I thought I'd respond in kind.

Ballerinas wreck their feet and strain their bodies, going through a considerable amount of pain that is considered "just part of the gig" and causing permanent damage in pursuit of a dainty aesthetic, so that's not exactly helping your case.

This insinuation that I'm not aware of sexism and how it functions is presumptive at best, and disgustingly condescending at worst.  I know plenty about sexism in media, it's not only what my degree is in but unbelievably, as a woman, as a queer woman, as a queer gender nonconforming woman, as a queer gender nonconforming woman with autism, I am well fucking aware of the systematic  disadvantages that take place in the world.  To say this picture is perpetuating this culture of negativity is a stretch which you still have still not adequately explained.  So far your best argument has been "I got serious" about you insulting me so you pulled this sexism argument out of your ass.

Let's break this down.  You made a comment about an issue you have with my art along the lines of "lol ur anatomy is bad" and I'm supposed to take it as funny??  Would you think it was funny if I went through your gallery and commented on all the things I perceive as wrong but then expected you to take it as a joke because I added an "XD" to the end?  I have a feeling you'd react in the exact same way as I did, saying "wow that was rude".  Because it is.

BUT NOW you're trying to tell me that really the "lol is her back broken XD" was supposed to teach me about the inner-workings of sexism which I probably don't know anything about and need it explained to me like I'm a child and you are the chosen one selected to enlighten me?  Sounds more like you don't want to examine yourself and your rude comment.  You may not be used to people calling you out on your bullshit, but, funny enough, having dealt with a lot of condescending people such as yourself because of sexism among other things (talking down to me presuming I don't know anything and need your help is kind of ableist of you, isn't it?)

AND YET here we are, and you still haven't explained how your comment, nor any of the handy links you've been so kind to spoonfeed me, relate at all to my image.  There are no breasts in this image, so "boobs don't work that way" is irrelevant, saying ballerinas wreck their feet is irrelevant.

ONTO BALLERINAS.  I was not the one who made Pearl a ballerina.  If you have an issue with that, take it up with Rebecca Sugar, maybe send her some of your links.  Ballerinas exist, and their existence, regardless of any of the issues there may be with the industry, is not problematic in and of itself.  Ballerinas are artists who have a passion for their art (I should know, I'm dating one and I am a former dancer myself) and saying "ballerinas get injured therefore your argument is invalid" doesn't make any sense.  Are there issues with the industry?  Sure.  But does that mean a depiction of a ballerina-esque character is sexist because ballerinas themselves are walking sexism?  Please.  If anything it's sexist of you to assume ballerinas do all the work that they do just to be "dainty".  My girlfriend does not dance to be dainty.  I did not dance to be dainty.

AND AGAIN this argument has next to nothing to do with my picture.  What is it you have issue with, is it her back (which you said was first "broken", then "sexual"), is it her breasts (???), or is it her feet (because ballerinas injure their feet and therefore its sexist to draw ballerinas?).

So let's recap.  You insulted my art.  I told you that was rude.  You tell me I deserve it because I'm sexist and don't know how to take a joke.  I tell you there is nothing sexual about this image.  You tell me because ballerinas get injured while dancing, and that the point of being a ballerina is to be dainty (???), that ballerinas themselves are sexist.  And somehow this is all my problem because I wouldn't let you be an ass on my page?  Please examine why you felt the need to not only make fun of people's art, but then to use the ~its just a joke~ excuse (literally one of the oldest in the book, please) and then try to convince me I'm some uncultured sexist heathen.  In your determination to not feel embarrassed about being called out on shitty behavior, you have only further embarrassed yourself by making this asinine argument.

I sincerely hope you don't run into any artists who are more sensitive, because your comments paired with your ~its just a joke~ mentality are absolutely awful.  I hope, though warily, that this is the kick in the ass you need to take an introspective moment and better yourself so that next time you make a comment on art you think for a second before typing.  I may be thick-skinned enough now to deal with this bullshit but you could seriously damage another artist's morale for the sake of your jokes and that's even more disgusting than all your grasping at straws to try to convince me I'm sexist.
