Description
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is pretty much just the biggest collection of characters and stages that ever existed throughout Smash Bros. history. But that has lead to the game being unforgivably flawed. As if the underwhelming number of new stages wasn't bad enough, the game has left out some characters that I really wanted to see being playable. Well, here they are:
1. Krystal (StarFox): One of my most beloved StarFox characters, I've wanted Krystal in Smash Bros. since before Brawl. I could well see her using her staff and what weaponry she holds as a member of Team StarFox. In Smash Bros. Krystal can have both her StarFox: Adventures outfit and her StarFox: Assault outfit all available in alternate colors. Putting her in Smash Ultimate as an Assist Trophy is just inexcusable! I'm more than sure that I speak for a great many fans when I say that Krystal should be a playable character.
2. Shovel Knight (Shovel Knight): Shovel Knight hit it big on the Nintendo Wii U. His game has the true NES feel, and proved just as fun to play. Shovel Knight has plenty of attacks and alternate colors to qualify him for Smash. But as the case is with Krystal: the makers of Smash Ultimate were also stupid enough to make him an Assist Trophy. Come on, Nintendo! We want to play with him like Mario, Link, and all the others.
3. Protoman (Megaman): Megaman's big brother. He pretty much has the same anatomy as Megaman, but he has all different moves from Megaman (A and B moves), plus he can make good use of his shield. So instead of putting him in that stupid Mega Legends Final Smash (which should be erased and replaced with Super Adaptor) Protoman should be made playable.
4. Bass (Megaman): Built by Dr. Wily, Bass became Megaman's anti-hero rival. In Megaman 10, Bass proved to move and attack differently than Megaman. Like Protoman, Bass will also have his own unique set of Robot Master weapons. And being that he is like Megaman in notable ways, his Final Smash should also be Super Adaptor, but in his case he combines with Treble the same way he does in Megaman 7.
5. Knuckles (Sonic the Hedgehog): When it comes to making a new Smash Bros. game, new characters for any series in the game should be made playable if possible. And I don't see why it isn't possible to have Knuckles being playable. He seems to be the most viable Sonic character to add given his roles in earlier Sonic games and his abilities that differentiate him from the Blue Blur. Wall climbing, gliding, and his studded knuckles: yeah, put him in Smash already.
6. Dixie Kong (Donkey Kong): My personal experience with her is limited. But from the Donkey Kong series, Smash Ultimate has the hero, his side kick, the main villain, now the only thing missing is the main playable female. And before you go crying "Echo Fighter", I've seen what she can do with her ponytail. Echo Fighter or not, as long as she has enough attacks and color schemes to differentiate Dixie Kong from her boyfriend Diddy Kong, I'm happy.
7. Takamaru (The Mysterious Murasame Castle): Super Smash Bros. Melee is the number one reason that Fire Emblem had come to the United States. Later in the Smash Series, we're introduced to Takamaru, a character from another game series that was exclusive to Japan. And his presence in the states was taken further in Nintendo Land with Takamaru's Ninja Castle. Like Little Mac, he can easily go from Assist Trophy to playable character.
8. Black Shadow (F-Zero): Up until this point, Captain Falcon has been the only character from the F-Zero series in Smash Bros. F-Zero will have more of a presence in Smash with it's most notorious villain: Black Shadow.
9. Sephiroth (Final Fantasy): Cloud is the most well known hero in the Final Fantasy universe. And while he's in Smash, we should also have the other highly popular character in the series: Sephiroth. He looks badass, he killed Vergil in Death Battle, and his presence adds to the playable bad-guy count.
Even though Smash Ultimate has every character that ever existed throughout the series there are just some characters that we could have done without:
-Piranha Plant: A recurring stage enemy without a main-character history? Come on!
-Bowser Jr.: Not very engaging, not even with the Koopa Klown Car. And I despise the vocal pause between "Bowser" and "Jr." when he's selected.
-Ryu and Ken: I just don't see characters originating in another fighting game being suited for Smash.
-Lucina: I love her, just she's way too much like Marth.
-Incineroar: He lacks my approval mostly out of anti-Alola sentiment.
-Dark Pit: He may have different weapons than Pit, but it's not enough for him to impress me. He just didn't make an impact.
-Young Link or Toon Link: Same character and attack set, different appearance. Whichever version of Kid Link we get should be determined by Ganondorf's appearance. Young Link worked for a game having the Ocarina of Time version of the bad guy, but Toon Link is more fit for a game in which we get Ganondorf's Twilight Princess look.
It's not all about catering to nostalgia, it's really about progress of the series.
