This is much larger than your screen indicates. It's 46" x 32" on wood panel, and that's what makes it neato. I spent a really long time trying to finish this, mostly because it's hard for me to get excited about subject matter like this. It's for my kid's room.

This is the largest painting I've ever done, and I learned a lot by doing it. 1)I was really forced to paint very generally at the start, and to get more specific as it developed. I used a big brush at the beginning and finished it off with a #4 filbert. 2)If you paint with thin layers of oil paints like I do, it helps to do a very general underpainting in acrylic first. I don't know how this affects the long-term longevity of the piece, but it makes it easy to get good coverage with just a little bit of oil paint. 3) I don't like doing big paintings. They're very cool, but it makes for a lot more work. Kudos to the old masters like David who painted colossal pictures. 4) I don't like doing pictures for kids. Not very thought-provoking. I guess you could read into this picture and say it's about class struggle or something, but it's really just a picture of monkeys and giraffes giving each other some weird vibes. The giraffes are snotty, and the monkeys are partying. The toucan is just hanging out.
