Description

Featuring Aytan  and Elysia
Early Autumn, Year 761 of the New Age
Close to Aytan's Glade, Central Glenmore

It was one of the last truly pleasant days of the year, with the forest already in Autumn's clutches, and the shrill cold of Winter fast on its heels. The trees were turning all shades of brown, orange, red and gold, and the ground was hidden under a blanket of leaves that had already fallen, ready to provide nutrients for the plants come spring.

Elysia gazed up at her father as they waded through the rotting foliage of the forest, smiling at the frown that seemed to settle over his face whenever he wasn't paying attention to his expression. They were on an evening walk, something that had been happening more and more frequently over the past weeks, with the excuse that it helped to keep the stag's joints from getting too stiff, though both of them secretly partook because it meant they got a little more time in each other's company. The doe loved spending time with her father, even if they rarely talked about anything important; it meant she got more time alone with him, something that was fast becomign a rarity given they both had responsibilities of their own.

They'd gone a different way this time, in a direction that Elysia had rarely explored, and had never really seen any other Fawnlings headed. She'd assumed there was simply more forest, though as they walked she became aware of a bright light ahead of them where the trees gave way to open space. The path they were on seemed to take them closer and closer to it, until suddenly it turned away and dove back into the trees. Aytan made to follow it, but Elysia paused, gazing out onto the large glade.

"Who's is that?" She asked, assuming that some Lord or other must have laid a tentative claim to such a large area; it was rare for glades to be completely ownerless.

Aytan walked back towards her, moving slowly to give himself some time to think. "I'm not entirely sure it belongs to anyone," he said ponderously. "I've never heard or seen anyone heading in this direction regularly. It might be one of the King's secret hideaways, though not one I've visited since I've been Captain."

Elysia frowned, confused. Surely the glade must be someone's? It didn't look at all maintained, with long grass and wildflowers running rampant, but then again some Glenmoorians preferred to leave their areas unkempt, as it made them feel closer to their Earth magic. She couldn't see anyone, though, and surely they'd return home in the evening....

She stepped out of the trees into the grass, holding her breath in case an angry stag might suddenly charge at her. But none appeared, and she found herself stepping further out into the open space, leaving the dark of the trees behind her. She bent her head to sniff the grass, but could find no scent among the greenery that would indicate a fawnling's presence or ownership. She moved further away and tried again, but again, nothing.

The grass brushing against her knees made her shiver, and a childish urge suddenly overcame her. She sank to her knees and, giggling to herself, rolled onto her back, squirming and wriggling as she let the grass rub against her back and rump. When she climbed to her feet again, still giggling, she saw Aytan was doing exactly the same only a short distance away. He hauled himself up as well, and meandered over to her.

"I don't think anyone's claimed this glade," he said quietly. "Not recently, anyway." He gazed about the area, before turning back to look at his daughter, his eyes glinting mischievously, and then suddenly he was off, bounding away through the grass like a youngster. "Come on, Elsy, surely you can beat an old stag like me?!"

Bewildered, it took the doe a moment to understand that her father was challenging her to a race, but soon enough she was leaping through the wildflowers after him, her lithe build lending her the advantage against the Captain's sheer bulk. She could hear Aytan laughing as he ran, and soon her laughter joined his as they raced around the field, with no particular finish line in sight. Eventually they both came to a halt, and sagged down into the grass, breathless, but still laughing. Flicking their tails idly against the flies that were still hovering around, they lay in silence until their breathing steadied and both felt able to speak again.

"That was... fun," the stag finally said, seeming unsure of the last word. He chuckled at himself, then sat up slightly to look down at his daughter. "We should do this sort of thing more often."

"If you like," was Elysia's reply. She looked up at him for a moment before sitting up as well, shaking her neck in an attempt to dislodge the grass that had become entangled in it. Reaching over, Aytan grasped a piece between his teeth and dislodged it, then set to work removing the rest of it as well. Elysia closed her eyes and sighed happily. Her father was clearly feeling much better than he had been earlier in the season, and it filled her with joy to have him so positive again. She twisted around and hooked her neck around her father's, and she felt him smile at the touch.

"We'd best be getting back, Papa," she said with a chuckle as she broke away from him again. "It'll be dark soon, everyone will be getting worried that their Captain's run off again!" She winked at him mischievously and clambered to her feet, already trotting back towards the trees before the stag was even on his feet. She paused and turned back to face him. "Come on, Papa, surely you can beat little old me?!"

I swear, I was born to write this fluffy madness!

I more drew the picture and then tried to work a story in to fit them together, and they still don't fit perfectly, but oh well! I quite like the picture though, the trees especially look better than my normal attempts, anyway!

But yeah, enjoy some fluff. with some bonus speed points, of course
