Seth poked his head of Lola's stall window, peering up at the clouds above the stable. It had been raining on and off all day, and the thunder in the distant had kept everyone on their toes all day. The forecast had predicted a light drizzle during the parade class, but the light breaking through the clouds above Acacia Grove suggested that the worst of the weather had already passed.

"Maybe the weatherman was wrong, eh girl?" Seth said with a chuckle, turning back to his mare and scratching her nose gently. "They never get it right, anyway."

An hour later, the pair were stood out in the Centre's photo area, with Seth glancing up at a sky that had darkened considerably since he last checked. Lola stood patiently beside him, nudging at pockets that she knew held many treats. Her mane and tail had been brushed to shiny perfection, and the flower crown that Seth had used to decorate his hat earlier in the day now sat around her ears.

Seth had used their limited sewing experience and an ancient sewing machine dug out of the attic back home to turn a bolt of organza and some ribbon into a make-do caparison for the mare, and had adorned it with fresh blooms from the trees around the estate on their way to the show ring - even the mare seemed impressed with their efforts, though had pinned her ears when he'd woven the flowers into the base of her tail. The mare painted a pretty picture, though, at least until--

The rain started again.

It was just a light drizzle, but Seth's misplaced optimism had led the two of them outside without any sort of weather protection, leaving Seth in just a woollen sweater and jodhpurs. So, Seth could only laugh, reaching into a pocket to fish a treat out for his beloved mare, hoping that the weather let up before it did any lasting damage to their handiwork.
