Description Autumn 753, heading towards Ridgeback Range, Glenmore.

This continues on from The Red Stranger.

[Each '-------' indicates a change in POV, from Caysa to Lia and back again]

[+1 Stamina]

Caysa couldn't believe what was happening. Yesterday everything had been fine, and now, now they were running from the only home either of them had ever known. The Glenmore forest sped by them as they ran through the trees, scattering leaves as they did. Just in front of her, Lia seemed to be running in blind terror, barely staying on her feet as she struggled to keep the pace her mother had set. Caysa glanced back to see if the stag was following them, but could distinguish nothing among the trees.

The path in front of them was quite distinct, to say it led towards the Blackwood territories. Caysa couldn't help but wonder how many had come this way before, and how many of them had been outcast by their herd, like they now were.

Lia suddenly bleated, and Caysa immediately looked down to see her daughter glancing up at her as she ran. Caysa bent her head down and nudged her fawn gently, reassuring her that she was there. The fawn seemed to become more confident after this, and her ears came up slightly from where they had been pinned.

-------------------------

Lia was terrified! She didn't know what was going on, or where they were, or where they were going. All she knew was that Aytan and Mama had been arguing, then Mama had led her away from the stag and made her run down the path. Now her throat was burning and her chest hurt from running so fast for so long.

She bleated in panic, and Mama nosed her softly. Lia felt better after that, and lifted her ears up a bit from her neck. Her chest still hurt though, and she badly wanted to tell Mama to stop, but somehow knew she shouldn't. Mama had a Look on her face that told Lia she should do what she was told until the look had gone.

So Lia faced straight ahead and followed the path as it wound through the autumn trees, listening to her mother as she ran just behind her. Ahead of them the path began to slope upwards, and became less clear as it paved their route through Glenmore. Lia could hardly believe it - her chest hurt so much, and her legs were beginning to ache, and now they had to run uphill as well! She looked up at Mama, but she still had the Look on her face, so Lia bit her tongue and ran on.

-------------------------

Caysa watched as the path began to meander its way up the foothills of Ridgeback Range, then glanced down at her daughter. The fawn had her eyes scrunched half-closed and was moving stiffly - it was clear she was struggling with the intense demands of running for so long. She wasn't complaining though, which made the doe smile slightly at the fawn's determination.

The path began to wind more through the trees, and soon it became impossible for them to keep their breakneck pace. Caysa slowed to a trot, and whickered at Lia to follow suit. The fawn slowed and looked back at her mother, and sighed in what sounded like relief.

------------------------

Lia could barely believe it when Mama called for her to slow down, and she looked back to see that the Look had gone from Mama's face. Lia stopped walking and sagged sideways, leaning against a tree for support as her legs let their pain known to her. She gulped in huge lungfuls of air and panted. Mama stopped beside her watched her anxiously, brow furrowed.

Lia slid down the trunk of the tree to lay awkwardly among the roots. She stared up at Mama and frowned right back.

"Why are we running, Mama?" She asked.

------------------------

Caysa watched as her daughter collapsed among the tree roots, struggling to breathe. The doe glanced around, but could see no obvious signs of a vengeful stag approaching, nor of any other threat. It was clear that Lia couldn't go much further, and this was about the safest place they would encounter over the next few days. The doe looked back down at her daughter to find her frowning up at her.

"Why are we running, Mama?" The youngster asked, taking Caysa by surprise. She had expected something along the lines of 'I'm hungry' or 'I'm tired', not something quite as... intelligent as that.

Caysa paused for a moment before responding. "I'll tell you when your older, Petal."

More storyline! I had planned on making this the entire image for them leaving Glenmore, crossing RR and putting up shack in Blackwood, but my mind apparently thinks otherwise. Oh well! More images for you!

I really like the leaves flying out behind them, and the fact that they're both looking backwards, towards home, is a really nice touch. And I hate running, so much - I completely get where Lia's coming from xD

Thanks! The leaves were a sudden addition just before I submitted, so I'm glad they gave the image something. I'm also glad you picked up on the eyes thing.

Running is the worst thing ever. Ever.

I know what you mean: exercise is awful. You have to go outside and put effort in. Not an ounce of sarcasm in there, that is actually how I feel.
