Well the Serbs certainly learned what happened when you piss of a bunch of Leo 1s with Danish drivers.

If you want to know then I suggest you google Operation Hooligan Bashing.

Tuzla 29th April 1994. It was described by the Danish commander as "The Mouse that ate the Cat".

No one cares about the Drivers. Its the Gunners and Commanders you need to worry about.

Good point.

Still was an awesome show of what the German cat could do when it fired its gun in anger.

Not quite as impressive as a Leo2. From personal experience its quite the boom.

Yeah but the Leo 2 never got to fight against large numbers of its own rival (T80? Or is it the T90?).

But yeah. The L/44 can really make an earthshattering kaboom.

If anything I have much more respect of a tank named after one of Earth's big cats (one of the most efficient killingmachines in nature) than a Tank named after a General (I know, Patton was a very good tank commander, but it's still just a name, while Tiger or Lion or Leopard triggers something more primal).

According to the SF guys, Tanks are also the only thing they really respect on the battlefield in terms of ground forces. Probably due to the fact that there is basically nothing they can do to 60 tons of steel that can kill the entire unit with one HE round from several kilometers away. They usually don't carry enough firepower around to take on a single tank. And proper Tank procedure calls for no tank to ever out and about be on its own.

The German military names most ground vehicles after some sort of animal. Leopard, Marder (type of Weasel), Wiesel, Skorpion (minelayer), Gepard, Serval, Wolf, Puma, etc. Not all of them after Predators either, like the Biber.

Well you wouldn't really expect a Bridgelayer to have the name of a predator.

Would be like having a Roll Royce called "The Raptor". Would just feel weird.

Well the German army jeeps are named "Wolf" and they aren't really meant for directly combating the enemy.

Well I don't know how the Heer utilizes their 4x4 units but in the Danish Army we usually use those units as scouts (which means they need to have at least some form of offensive capability if "Fecal matter" flies fanwards).

The Heer has dedicated recon units that use the Fennek. The Wolf may survive small arms fire but anything else is debatable. The one German Company Sergeant said that the Danish do it right with their Leos in that every vehicle has its own garage sealed from the environment so that they can work on the vehicle regardless of weather.
Meanwhile German troops have just a roof over the vehicle and have to put up with whatever nature throws at them.

Oh I'm sorry.

The Wolf is just a normal GD (GelΓ€nderwagen).

We have those too, I just mixed them up with our special scout GD's (which is lightened and has mounts for MG3's).

Anyways. Those Fenneks look awesome. Looks a bit like the MOWAG Eagle IV's we use.

Yeah, the Fenneks are awesome. They even have a stealth mode that makes them so quiet that you can't hear it move. Only things crunching under their tires really gives them away though their top speed is much lower at that point.

Germany has also ordered hundreds of Eagle IVs and Vs. Saw them driving around a couple of times.

Maybe we should let the comments section be about the actual picture instead of random German army vehicles.

Not that it hasn't been fun. Just think we might have side-tracked the whole thing.
