Beautiful. So atmospheric. I love the ambiguity of his pose-I can read his countenance several different ways. I also love the white glints on his figure picking out details of his form, and muted-ly echoing the lights of the city. Both that, and his pose integrating into the gargoyle, make the Batman an integral part of the city, itself. Love it!

Well, it started picking up in the concept art community as something stupid and fun, and then it bombed in popularity and has since become a consistent and needless eyesore. It's the same shit as when lens flare was popular way back when. The fad will die out eventually [hopefully].

A friend said that it's a medical issue. It seems that people with this odd eye condition see things with CA sometimes, it floats around objects or something. Guess for them this makes a picture look more real.

Not sure about a medical condition of that description, but yeh, moving the red and cyan [green/blue] channels and imitating chromatic aberration can make a still image appear to be three dimensional if you've got a stereoscopic viewer. That technique is called stereoscopy. Specifically, the form of stereoscopic effect that is being applied in these kinds of images is called anaglyph 3D. It's the same shit they use in those IMAX theatres to create pop-out movies. It forces your eyes to unite the two channels of colors into one image and create the illusion of depth.

Nah, chromatic aberration is something that happens in cameras as they photograph the image and certain light rays don't align perfectly with another. Some people think it looks cool and they started dumping it into their artwork.

Wow! I've seen some good gargoyle Batmans, but your rain is just PERFECT--the blurs, the reflections, the mist of scattered droplets when they hit a hard surface. Amazing!
