Description Dead as though she may be, Toshio still loves his mommy.

Third in my "Women of Japanese Horror" series. Since the memory of the *shudders* American remake of "Ju-on" or "The Grudge" is still fresh in many people's minds, I really don't need to explain the story behind Kayako. Let's just say that I won't be strolling into any abandoned suburban houses in Tokyo anytime soon.

Before you complain to me about the messiness of this piece, let me explain that it's meant to look (at least in the top half) like one of Toshio's childish scribbles. I didn't have crayon, so I used oil pastel, but hopefully it turned out looking the same. The stick-doodle guy on the far right is Takeo, Kayako's crazy husband (stupid jealous jerk), the floating stick in the middle is Toshio (poor kid), and that's Kayako's face peering out of the window. The text reads (from left to right) "Ju-on" and "Mama".

Watercolor, oil pastels, gel pen, paint pen and Photoshop (desat tool in some places).

I love this, I always felt more pity for Kayako and Toshio than fear of them.... It's a sad story

I was able to find just about all of them in my local video store (which is a three-floored wonderful monstrosity). You might have a good amount of luck searchin on Youtube or downloading them via bittorrent.

this is a very beautiful, yet scary picture^^ I love it, it's great!
The contrast between Toshio's drawing and Kayako is wonderful! I'm a big fan of Ju-on and the grudge, and even though its scary, Kayako and Toshio's story is really sad.
Its nice to see a pic where the sadness and not just the scariness is reflected

Ooh that is so creepy. Even though I'm not scared watching that movie anymore, the entrance to the attic in my house is in my closet and I'm so convinced that Kayako and Toshio are living up there. Good job! A definite favourite!

I think the oil pastel makes it look more like a crayon on the computer it makes the effect more pronounced. Very nice.

I've got to say, I love all your artwork, and if they were on prints, I woud so buy all of your women of J-horror, I think that this is one of your most engaging, one of your most beautiful peices I've seen, and its hard for me not to favorite all of your work, but this one.....

I just cna't explain, the Toshio-drawing aspect is perfect, the image of kayako is haunting.....I love it.

Ju-On still remains one of my favorite J-horror movies to date, despite having seen my good share of them so far. Kaya-chan looks so real here, and the skillful way you juxtaposed her with Toshio's kid-scribbles is absolutely brilliant. I think this one is my favorite, of your pieces. p(*οΌΎ-οΌΎ*)q

Wow, lovely drawing. I love the scribbly childish stuff at the top. It's a great contrast agaisnt the dark woman, who I actually find radiates more sadness than evil. I wasn't too crazy about the movie (American version), actually... it was certainly creepy but just didn't sit well with me. Haven't seen the Japanese one, though.

Heh, randomly I've only seen the american remake. I dare think its enough of me, but now you've gone and gotten me curious about the japanese version...

Even though just the mere thought of that croak-noise she makes is enough to have the hairs on my back stand on end o_o

Very nice painting. I like the mix of a ghostly figure and the child's drawings. I've never seen the original movie or the american remake so I don't know much about the story/the character of Kayako, but its still awesome. :3

mementomoryo In reply to sitauset [2005-06-28 04:01:26 +0000 UTC]

Kayako was your typical underappreciated houswife who obsessed over another man far too much, and her crazy husband thought the other guy was her son Toshio's real dad, jealousy drove him over the edge and well... just watch the film and you'll see what happens. Sorry, I tend to spoil things to people a lot. Thanks a bunch!
