Description
During breeding season they are often seen engaged in elaborate underwater dances of courtship. They will then return upstream traveling for hundreds or thousands of miles to reach their breeding grounds sometimes swimming through thin creeks, shallow rivers, raging rapids and even up waterfalls. Once there, they will select a secluded area and use their powerful horns to burrow out a nesting hole to lay their eggs. After the eggs are laid and fertilized, they will take turns guarding their brood until they hatch in approximately a month.
