Story:

Sam stood by Robin's side, they both tacked up and ready to enter the warm up arena. They had fought hard to get here, ventured to shows all around just to get Robin in top condition as well as as ready she can get for such a huge event… but was it enough?

Sam had traveled with Robin, competed her and schooled her at home turf to finetune everything he possibly could without her getting tired of him and his nitpicking. And it was hard not to be. Sam was a notorious perfectionist when it came to his riding and his horses. He loved to watch them learn and grow as individuals and he could see all this unpolished potential that Robin was capable of. He knew she would get there eventually, but was this a mistake? Was entering her in the HaRPG Olympics a way too big of a leap for her to take? Was he being unfair to her? He didn’t expect her to walk in and win the first thing she did consider her inexperience. There were a few more horses that had way better foundations than her to stand on, so why did he pick her?
Well… the answer wasn’t as clear as he had thought it would be.

Gaius had been his first choice but when he was pending to get sold he was not a valid option anymore. And now when he wasn’t for sale because William bought him it was too late to get Gaius in top condition.
Breezer had been his obvious second choice but she already had had a huge show year and was not in condition to compete in such an event but rather deserved the rest.
And there she stood, Robin the only other horse that barely met the criteria to compete that was Sam’s to ride.
The choice to bring her was bold and perhaps for some, even a statement even though Sam would never admit to doing such a thing.
So why her? And not just take a step back from this year’s Olympics?

Sam sighed as he gently stroked Robin’s neck and mane before getting in the saddle. He was always filled with doubt before he competed and it sure was a bad habit of his to not trust his guts. He had a wall of ribbons to prove himself wrong, so why did he always default to this state of mind? It was toxic.
He tried to remember and embrace what Allie had told him after he had walked to course. That this could just be “any GP really” but still. The prestige was way higher. It was still the Olympics.
He sighed once more, rolled his shoulders and tried to shake off those bad habits of his and replaced his thin line of lips with a soft relaxed smile. He did this for both of them, Robin and himself. And he would give her the best foundation to stand on.

You have to grow your wings sometime and take a leap of faith. Perhaps this was Robin's turn to do so? To prove to Sam that she would leap into anything and anywhere as long as she had him on her back to lead her.
