Before Sunnyfreckle was born, his mother, Brindlepetal was an independent queen who was both asexual and aromantic. The she-cat, though, always wanted to have kits so she asked a tom by the name of Firespark to father her kits. He debated for a bit before agreeing. Firespark was a descendent of Lionblaze through his kit Snaptooth.

Soon, Brindlepetal gave birth to a litter of a mere one kit. The small tom had the golden and ginger coloration of his father. She decided to name the small kit Sunnykit after his bring coloration. Brindlepetal was very caring and affectionate towards her only son and spent almost all of her time with him. Sunnykit loved to talk to other cats and make friends. The warriors and apprentices always found it cute that this little golden kit wandered up to them and asked if they wanted to be friends with him. Since he was only a mere kit, whenever he said something he probably shouldn’t mention was brushed off as a kit’s silly overactive imagination.

Soon, the tom reached the age of apprenticehood and gained the new name Sunnypaw. He was very proud of his new name and decided to greet everyone around camp as Sunnypaw, even though they all already knew. Most cats just put up with his antics since he was just an excited apprentice. His favorite part of being an apprentice was meeting others at gatherings. At his first, he met another apprengice by the name of Swiftpaw from ShadowClan. The two quickly became fast friends and met a lot at every gathering and sometimes at the boarders. Eventually, Sunnypaw discovered that he wasn’t a ‘he,’ but rather a ‘they.’ They confided in Swiftpaw during a gathering.

Unfortunately, when Swiftpaw and Sunnypaw became warriors (named Swiftwing and Sunnyfreckle), Swiftwing left Sunnyfreckle and avoided them. The idea of losing a friend terrified the spotted ginger cat, but they eventually managed to get past that.
