OK, I'll try to make the process of tutorial from the PSD file. Some layers were already bound or retouched, but I'll try to explain them with my bad English.
Ohhhhhh, poor Feliks...!!!! Now I'm totally caught by official female characters...OTL

Well, I always recognize your works - even in thumbnail form)
Btw, it's really great, that you've drawn camomiles in this picture (because they are the real flower symbol of Russia, not sunflowers).

Anya seems to be the translation, but English fandom usually calls her Vanya. Or Ivanna, with Vanya as a nickname.
I love female Russia's new pic~! I bet Lithuania would love her more then. XD He likes Belarus and Belarus is a scary woman. So I bet he would like female Russia.

I've seen the picture with the new female ones all in a row, but that's all I have seen. Anya actually makes sense for a nickname (does that word translate?). Russians love nicknames, that is why a lot of people call Ivan Vanya. For Ivanna to have a nickname, Vanya would be what friends call her too, but Anya would be something a lover would call her. The more the nickname changes, the more personal it gets. I use 'Vashya' for male Ivan, as an intimate nickname that Toris uses for him. And Ivan uses Toryshka for Toris in the same way. I have had several Russians say they love my use of nicknames because I made them right. XD
Ooh, a pic of Liet? That one I want to see, but it seems the blog is gone? o.o

I'm not sure I understood that you said 'does that word translate?'
When we uses Japanese letters(Katakana) to write foreigner's name, it doesn't has any meaning. Just a pronunciation.
Yes, I know Russian love nicknames.(*v*) But I don't know it also show the relationship of each others.
No, it's my own illusion...< Liet was fighting with little female Russia.
The genderbend picture is still on the official blog.[link]

Ah yes, I like genderbend female-Russia/Lithuania as well. Fighting a stronger female, well, I like strong females anyway!♥ Since Lithuania likes scary women like Belarus, would he like Russia as a female too?

neska-12 In reply to mepty [2010-08-14 13:30:22 +0000 UTC]
I agree with nyako-tgn: the name 'Ivanna' is not used in Russia. (Though some Western (and maybe Southern) Slavic women have this name.)
Btw, 'Anya' is a diminutive for 'Anna' (as nyako-tgn already said), not for 'Anastasia' (as many non-Russian people think ^^). The diminutives for 'Anastasia' - 'Nastya' and 'Asya'.

Are diminutives fixed by names?

neska-12 In reply to mepty [2010-08-17 15:36:07 +0000 UTC]
Np)
Are diminutives fixed by names? - Mm... pretty much they are. I think the case in the tradition of their use and in the features of word formation with affectionate diminutive (уменьшительно-ласкательные) suffixes.
