Description Portrait 1925 winner of the Schneider Cup, at Baltimore, Maryland and won by James Doolittle in this Curtiss R3C-2 at an average speed of 232.57 mph (374.28 km/h).

This was one of five pieces featured in the 2007 COMMUNICATION ARTS Illustration Annual.

This piece was created in Illustrator CS and is entirely vector.

The shading was rendered using the blend tool between different vector shapes, and a some use of the gradient and transparency tools.

... a very impressive speed at the time, considering that Doolittle was flying a circuit around pylons. The next day he set a float-plane speed record of of 245.713 mph (395km/h).
