Character Details:

Personality:

Competitive | Aggressive | Assertive | Cunning | Manipulative | Spiteful | Grudge-holding | Loyal

Despite appearances, M'hara is a feline who leads with an 'iron paw'. With a throne built on rage and tenacity she is a powerful cat who backs down to no one. Although her stature may lure some into a false security, she knows her way around a battle and is hellbent on causing damage when she needs to, a fairly offense-driven cat with fewer thoughts to defense. She is there to strike fast and to strike hard, and prefers using her claws and teeth in battle so the attacks feel more 'personal'.

Though for some time she used her rage against her foes, she now harnesses the aggressive loyal nature towards protecting the Thray people. Well into her prime she has gained a small sense of level-headedness, but is still quick to anger and hasty to hold a grudge. Despite this, she is a natural born leader in many Thray eyes - though Khan-Kayans are more often male than female, she has proven her worth time and again with her strength and aggression, asserting herself as their ruler and using cunning manipulative politics.

Those who know her best are fully aware of her growing distrust with the dark spellcasters to the Southwest, though often know better than to claim this is 'fear' to her face.

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

 Unpredictable Choices
 Nomadic, restless tendencies
Rebelling against anyone or anything that restrains them
Hurting others if it means advancing their own interests

Appearance:

Lithe and feminine, M'hara somehow manages to embody the delicate female form while remaining powerful and muscular beneath, every curve of her bodice lined with a trim fitness. While her features are primarily pale, giving her a somewhat innocent and angelic aura to her, it's minimized by the darkened throat patch, tear lines, and bottom maw and certainly destroyed by the constant ferocity in her gaze. Perhaps being a female and having climbed her way to the rank of Khan-Kayan has caused her to near always show a certain edge to her peers, acting in a constant discouragement should they consider challenging her.

Less common in the Thray regions, her mane forms tufts along her nape and five distinct ridges - a dorsal and two haunch ridges on either side - in porcupine-esque fashion as if sporting a rump full of quills. Causing her to stand out further is the dainty gilded pattern that marks her, faded on such a dilute pelt but giving a brilliant glimmer in the sunlight.

Her accessories are minimal - at least to a fellow Thray, who so often sport so many due to their access to gems and trade supplies - managing only a thin red and gold veil and a matching bracer on her tail. She is quite cautious of new accessories and often refuses to touch new items from the other colonies. Not many cats know why she shows such a reluctance to touch outsider objects. In secret, it is due to what lies underneath her tail bracer - a red ribbon, token of a mating ceremony among the Thray, that holds a sinister curse.

History:
Born to a female who claimed the rank of Kuan, and a notable Sentry, M'hara was the gem of her parent's eyes for the longest time. A healthy, fit young kit she excelled quickly even among her own siblings, showing a prowess for physical combat and highly competitive nature. It was no surprise when the young feline became a drudge in her first year, following the path of many warriors before her. With multiple siblings she strived constantly to prove herself the best, the most fit, the most powerful - in the eyes of many, she and her siblings were a vision of the future, a strong generation of new Thrayans. With the current Khan-Kayan growing older, it was already speculated that her mother may take over the rank, and perhaps they would see M'hara or one of her siblings elevated to a Kuan some day.

With her mother a notable cat, and her children powerful and growing strong, Zsira'fa became an unfortunate target. The other clans hardly worried about the current Khan-Kayan, but the idea that the notoriously ruthless and cunning Kuan may take his place was cause for some concern. No one knows who pulled the trigger, but eventually Zsira'fa fell ill, and many Thrayans blamed magic as the sudden cause of her demise.

Nearly a year passed and as M'hara grew, her rank changed from Drudge to Sentry. Inspecting new trade product among arrival and escorting envoys from the other clans became her duty, and through it she met him. Ichtac'aa was a tom near her own age, an elected envoy from Xacari, and despite her recent bitterness against them with the speculation of her mother's demise the young molly couldn't help but be enchanted by his tales, envious at his show of magic as he used spellcasting to change her appearance or tenderly heal a scrape. She found himself looking forward to each visit, whether she waited a few months or even a year between. A loyal beast she closed herself off to the advances of many Thray males, hoping and waiting for the return of her handsome dark love.

It wasn't much longer before he visited once more, and through his own suggestion they chose to tie their ribbons together. Though at one time M'hara's sights had been set differently, career-driven and focused on taking over her mother's place one day as a Kuan, her path was now diverted. She found herself desiring a mate, kits, a family life.

In her love-blindness she failed to see it as odd that Ichtac'aa seemed pestered when she refused to tie the ribbon round her neck or waste and opted for a section midway down her tail instead. She claimed it wasn't as in the way there, that it wouldn't interfere with her training and was less likely to be damaged. Besides, she was never a vain cat - she didn't need to show him off to the world with numerous loops of ribbon woven 'round herself. A small token of their love was all she needed, in a place she could keep it safe.

Little did she know, never would she have possibly expected, that the ribbon had been cursed. Enchanted as soon as it was wound around her tail, it was stuck. No matter if a claw or fang striked it, it would not rip. No matter how hard she tugged, it would not come off. No, it took her some time to realize, but the ribbon was stuck fast, unable to be removed, and tightening. In his absence her mind taunted her, trying to convince herself it wasn't true, he would never. But of course, love cannot deny fact. The tightening of the ribbon was slow, but as soon as she started to feel the tightness and moved to loosen it - the ribbon unyielding to her efforts - it became clear. Ichtac'aa had been hoping for a ribbon around her neck or waste, for her to tie her own noose with her blinded love for him.

He never visited again, perhaps knowing if his efforts spelled his doom if he dared cross her path again.

Unable to convince the current Khan that he should be slaughtered mercilessly [this would cause war, the Khan-Kayan argued], she considered setting off on her own to deal with her would-be killer. Even in a blind rage, she knew she could not justify the act. She would go, she would kill her beloved, and the Xacari would kill her in turn. She would leave behind her brother, her sister, her father.

No, no matter the pain she went through, she could not. Yet somehow this triggered a response in her; she could not do anything yet. She was not powerful enough yet.

Unable to bear the duties of a sentry and having little desire to inspect new - possibly cursed - items or meet handsome traveling envoys, she resigned herself back to the position of a drudge, throwing herself into her work with fierce tenacity and bloodthirstiness. She trained hard, fought hard, and proved her worth the way Thrays knew best, by showing her strength and prowess in battle.

Quickly she grew in rank from drudge to Berserker, and at age 16 was chosen as Kuan by the newest Khan-Kayan. Still bitter and resentful as the ribbon around her tail continued to tighten - with the ribbon itself and the bruised bloody cut it had begun to cause hidden by a bracer - she pressed once again for her killer to be brought to justice.

Again she was denied, with the cause of a Xacari war too high of a price.

It was another year before she challenged the Khan who had chosen her as Kuan. With a determined ferocity she was victorious, bloody and battered by the fight but claiming the title of Thray's new leader. Yet not all were pleased with the transition of power. Even her dearest sister posed against her, challenging her not long after in an attempt to avoid a messy assault on the dark magic cats. M'hara remained victorious, but shattered nonetheless by her sister's perceived betrayal.

Despite causing a rift in the family, Efitra's voice was heard. Rather than continue to follow a personal vendetta, she had the entire colony relying on her now. If even her dearest sister had spoken out against her plans, perhaps she ought to refrain.

And so began her reign, maturing throughout the past half decade that she has been Khan-Kayan, learning to listen to the voices of her people, yielding on some matters and holding firm on others. Still, she holds a deep grudge against the Xacari and shows a marked distrust towards any new goods from their area, often having a stubborn refusal to meet with their envoys.
