I love the part in the background where it's highlighted. It's perfect! Just hidden enough for it to be mysterious and just visible enough for people to notice it. Nice!

Very nice - I wouldn't say it reminds me of the Matrix so much as it does the 2001 anime Metropolis, but then again, I've just watched that recently.
Lineart is, as I've come to expect from you, exceptionally clean and tight - you handle the details of the face and hair, and the lines of the limbs with a graceful economy, and while the lineart is clearly visible, it's inobtrusive, and doesn't distract from the real focus of the picture, the colour work.
Examining the background first, I approve of the way you've placed the line of text amoungst the binary. It's probably a good thing that you avoided the standard matrix finish - I for one like the glowing effect of text cascading down a black screen, but it's so damn overused! If it was up to me, I probably wouldn't have highlighted the text so much, but what you've done works.
Moving on to the wing design at the back of the character (at least, that's what it looks like to me) - I love the glowing effect with the lower spine/tendrils/bones, and the linework for the metal part is excellent, but I must confess, the metallic colour finish and lighting effects have confused my sense of three dimensionality a little. That said, metal is damn tricky to draw, and you've extremely well for a first attempt.
Looking at the figure shading, I like the minimalistic approach, with the washed out lighting, and the shadows fall very nicely around the elbow of the frontmost arm, all of the back arm, the upper part of the knee, and the main portion of the hair. They do, however, look a little unwieldy around the waist (excellent line and form work there, by the way), front shoulder, thighs, hands and feet. For the most part, that's just because of the sharp edge effect you've used (which to me seems a little incongruous with the strong pale colour effect, but may come down to personal choice), but in a few places, it's because the shadows seem to skim over the form without quite defining it correctly - that, however, is just something that comes down to practise and observation, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.
My final main point on the shading is the front free strand and forward clumps of hair. That free floating strand looks a little awkward, and both it and the forward clumps could probably stand to be shaded at their roots - as I understand it, they begin at a point on the head that's at least partially in shadow. Beyond that minor nitpicking, however, let me just say that you've done a phenominal job with the hair. It has a kind of free floating sense of shiny shiny depth and volume that I'm very much in awe of.
Well done.
Well done on this whole damn thing - I've just realised that I've gone and written an essay on this, when all I really wanted to do was tell you that I liked it.
Hopefully, you won't mind, and will take my rambling for what it is - artistic appreciation of a good job.

Ah yes, Metropolis, lovely animated movie. I have it on DVD, I really should watch that again. I don't know if my style could ever match Tezuka, but I think I understand what you mean...it's all the glowing and floating I think
I think I agree with your point on not highlighting the text, however, I don't rely on the ability of people to pick up subtlety, so it sometimes becomes a habit of mine to make things obvious. Personally, I would probably get rid of the highlight, but meh.
The metal, yes, I've done metal maybe once before, and had a similar effect. I think it's a personal choice, but I'll agree it's not perfect. I like the part to the very right of the picture, that came up nicely, but the rest, well, the shading and so on, it is a tad random. The glowing on the bones was fun to do and I'm glad it turned out alright.
The shading that you refer to in the waist and front arm, yes, the second layer of shading was a little...rushed perhaps. I used to large a brush I think. The washed out look was a last minute choice, I wanted to bring the shadows out a bit more, and she is supposed to seem faded, so it seemed like a good choice.
As for the hair, yeah, I agree with you there, but that is where I was cowardly, I wanted so badly to have highlights on the fringe, and the floating piece of fringe, well, it followed on from the lighting on the rest of the fringe. I'm a bad shader *slaps hand* because logically, that would all be shaded, thelight wouldn't reach it there. The hair was still fun to do, I'm so glad I pulled it off.
And yes, I do take your rambling as artistic appreciation, I don't often get very decent constructive comments like this, and even less of those I appreciate, usually I either disagree completely or they are things I don't/can't fix. So thank you very much
