Of course they do. But that does not make you a bad artist! Think about it, Michelle Lee is amazing, right? And she uses reference systematically.Don't be harsh on yourself, you are very good, and if the use of reference can make your art look better, use it.

My brain doesn't work like hers. I mean I cannot rely on always having reference or what I can draw will be very limited.
I usually know what I want to draw and need to figure it out myself or take my own photos. Stock photos really never fit what I have in mind. Using only parts is a problem because I'll end up with one part more realistic than the other.

This is really beautiful and serene. The tail and headfins adds an extra touch of magic to the scene even with the water bowl. I like how somewhat subtle is it that she isn't human <3
