Now something new again...

My interpretation of a Saxon warlord belt and belt pouch, roughly 6th to 7th Century. It is made from naturally tanned cow leather of 4-5 mm thickness. The leather was dyed using a mahagony-coloured leather dye corresponding to natural dyes of the period.
Bronze castings were provided by Raymond's Quiet Press, New Mexico, U.S.

The Saxon belt buckle originally is from St.Denis. Buckles like those were favoured by the Franks, but also appear in Saxon and Anglo-Saxon territory, as well as the pre-Viking Vendel period in Sweden & Scandinavia. The other Belt plates are replicas from the findings in Faversham, Kent, and Sutton Hoo.
The belt pouch is an interpretation of the pouch from the Sutton Hoo burial, regarding shape and size. The birds of prey castings are typical for Germanic imagery of the period, and are found throughout northern Europe for several centuries.

The belt will also be fitted with suspension for a Seax knife sheath, yet to come...

A belt like this might have been worn by an Anglo-Saxon, Saxon or early Viking warlord. Sewing the pouch has been quite a challenge, considering the thickness of the leather. Therefore it is nearly indestructible.
