Thanks. I honestly don't think that's a previously swallowed meal in it's long throat. That's a cervical (?) bend in it's neck bones, it shows the most when the bird is holding it's head in that position. I've taken a lot of great egret photos before. They were very common where I used to live, and I could get pretty darned close. I recognize the crook in its neck. This bird was actually going quite a while between captures.

could be that, but I've seen this before with the Herons... sometimes it looks like they have swallowed a golf ball.

Definitely more of a snack than a meal, or maybe just the starter! And it doesn't have to fly home to keep on top of its DA account!
