What I'm going to ask may sound really scary, but I'm really very curious. I've seen these "Shelter" signs (sta.sh/01p4304ldu0a ) at each metro station in Seoul. For what occasions these shelters are designed? Are they only for natural disasters or can it hide you from a... well, nuclear explosion?

You see, I was thinking about the idea of "Metro 2033 - Meanwhile in Seoul", how would postapocalyptic Seoul metro look like. Does the stations of the Seoul metro have hermetic gates similar to Moscow metro?

I'm sorry for  late reply.

Most Seoul subwaystations accept for shelter. They can defend from any natural disasters or North Koreans attack.(bombs or ICBM or aircraft attck )

But they  don't have hermetic doors. and I don't know they can resistance nuclear attacks.

maybe Yeouinaru ( - 56m) , Sansung( -47m) , Soongsil university (-45m)  stations are can defend from nuclear attacks.

Well, they lies deep enough to survive the explosion, but hermetic doors are needed to protect from fallout... Man, how could it be that the stations have no hermetic doors? And what if the flood will happen?

They no have hermetic doors. mostly they have metal meshed
shutter doors.

postfiles8.naver.net/20140108_…

Maybe they if sucessfully defend nuclear attack(lucky case), but they don't  protect from radiations or fallout, so refugees leaves station platforms and they evacuate to railroad tunnels.

Certainly tunnels more safe then stations.
That is perfect isolated from station platform by PSD screen doors and tunnel is linked other safty zones.

In the other case, flood happens subway station,
station officers are setting on the flood proof boards to station gate.

like this.

But that is not perfectly protect from flood
flood is over the proof board, and that station will gone.

( flood height from rails from above 30cm,  subways are still working)

I'm afraid, these measures aren't enough to survive the fallout. After all, Moscow metro was designed to be used as a bomb shelter since the WWII and during the Cold War it was redesigned specifically to survive nuclear attacks. Stations are equipped with special air filters, hermetic doors and supplies enough for thousands of people to live under the ground for some time. Their structure had been reinforced to survive the explosion. And I don't think that all of these measures were taken into account during the construction of the Seoul metro.

And  I really hope that none of us will ever have to use metro as a bomb shelter.

Speaking of KORAIL. Have you heard about the Trainz Simulator 12? How do you think, is there any mods for it that adds Korean trains to the game? Because there are mods with Russian trains. It allows to ride ТЭ10М and ЧМЭ3 - my favorites. And passenger cars have such a detailed interiors. I can get some screenshots for you if you're interested.

Wow. Russian stations are amazing. I'm impressed there shelter system.

I know Trainz 2012. But Korean trains mod in other railroad simulator games , likes "Microsoft Trainsimulator" and macoy's "BVE trainsim"

Most korean railroad modes in BVE.
Because BVE is most favorite train simulation game in Korea.

But I love "TS2015" or "Trainz 2012"

Also I love too ТЭ10М locomotive. My best favorite russian train is ЕП20 & M62.

Have you thought that idea of the "Merto 2033" came from nowhere? Nope, it's all based on actual features of the Moscow metro, hehe. During the Cold War we put lots of efforts into the Civil Defence system. For example, near to my home, there is a small old building that looks like a garage. But actually this is an entrance into the shelter. It's abandoned as well as most of the shelters of that era, but it's still there. When summer will come here - remind me to take a couple of photos of it for you, okay?

Okay, I'll try BVE sometime. Thanks for the advise.

And... Well, I don't know much about electric trains. Except for The Great and Powerful ВЛ85 . Maybe you have heard that it's a meme in Russian internets. Oh and I've seen 2ЭС5К in Khabarovsk, but I can't say that either of them are my favorites. You see, the railroads around my city are unelectrified, so I'm really used to see diesel locomotives only, I really sticked to them. That's why 2ТЭ10М and ЧМЭ3 are my most favorite ones. Because I see them here, frequently, since my childhood. But we don't have М62, so it's not among my favorites. And the only electric train that I have never seen with my own eyes, but I'm deeply in love with is ЭР1. Such a cute old school design...

Have some videos to watch:
youtu.be/QAKUfbqwrwg - a couple of crazy guys travels to Komsomolsk from Vladivostok by a train.
www.youtube.com/user/TrainPhot… - lots of cool railroad videos. Some of them are taken here, in the Far East.

Oh after alot of examining of this picture, I found a mistake: You're Taurus have the front of an ES64U2 but the side of an ES64U4, which have a different front and different cab. Maybe I should stop looking at your pictures or I will find more mistakes
