Description As requested - tutorials how to apply vray materials that can be found at [link]
I'm not much of a tutor so it might be confusing. When in doubt fell free to ask me any question about it.

Happy rendering

That means there is map attached to this parameter, which controls how the parameter "behaves". You can set many different maps and get different results.

You sure you have required textures/maps for material you want to use? Show what material you want to get and what do you get when you follow this tut.

My father asked me to make a wallpaper of his old school badge, so I got the idea of doing it in 3dsMax - tracing in Corel and exporting.
As I have had only about 3 days training on the 3dsMax program, I am a bit unsure over the rendering - thus far I have only ever needed nothing more than 640 x 480 or smaller, just to show that I completed the assignment.
I was looking for tips on how to render like 1280 x 1024 sizes and all that but got to learn something way more interesting from your tut!
I really appreciate your interest in my project!

Sooo... a 3D badge then? Exporting is one way, the other is (at least the way I used):
1. Create a simple 1x1 plane
2. create a material on wich you apply a texture, bitmap of the mentioned badge
3. apply the material to the plane
4. using it as a reference, choose spline tool and create the outline of the shapes in the badge
5. extrude the splines to desired height.

You could send me the badge photo, so I could take a look and tell you how to make it 3-dimensional
Send it to merraton(at)gmail.com That would be a nice excercise for me

Thanks a lot for your help!
Would like to see your take - I'll send you the files.
(Please bear with me though, I'm still very inexperienced and tend to do things the way it works best for me.)

I hate when downloaded materials and models missing textures. This is from many sites and tutorials, including vraymaterials.de. They just forgot to place texture in zip file. And change paths to relative.

Wish I had something, but I totally suck at interior lightning :/ I still didn't manage to properly set up lights in an interior. As soon as I get any results worth showing, you can be sure I'll post them here

np buddy, me too suck in the interior lighting but i'm trying to do somehting about it.
thank you

Merraton In reply to AR-More [2008-07-22 22:51:02 +0000 UTC]

It's always either too dark or too bright. I can't find the proper values. Unfortunately there is no good book covering interior lightning and rendering that would cover the topic using vray as a renderer. Only one I've managed to find was one with mental ray.
