I used 3D Studio Max, and the render is done with mental ray. And there is a little bit of compositing in photoshop.

Ah cool, I'm wanting to have a good at doing some 3d work, is there a place where you can get objects from? like tables chairs etc..

Yeah, you can try google 3D warehouse [link] where you can download objets in sktechup format for free (and you can import them for example in max), but I don't know if you can use them for commercial purpose.

There is also turbosquid [link] which is a website where you can download 3d models for multiple softwares. There are a lot of models, and some of them are really good. some are free, but for most you have to pay. You can use them for commercial purpose.

You can also buy CD of models by themes, for example dosch design proposes this kind of products
