I thought that in a strange kind of way, CLU's actions in Tron: Legacy showed perhaps that he had a kind of paternal feeling. While I realize the visual reasons for why the plot went the way it did -- namely, the need to have a lightcycle battle -- it still implied a certain fondness.One wonders what would have happened if Alan had gone in. On the one hand he was old and creaky, and on the other hand, imagine when Rinzler saw him.
