Beautiful use of composition and light. Immediately the sheer stature of the thick snowstorm appears very confronting; the way it covers almost the entire image and most in the top half conveys the impression that it's really heavily enveloping the landscape, particularly with the way its colour overlaps and grows into the forest. All detail and all matter apart form the forest and deer is invisible; the scene appears to be just a thick, blank world of snow, completely overwhelming and completely immense.
I feel like the composition of the image really heightens the snowstorm's impact; as mentioned, the fact that the main scene is so low on the image implies that its being dwarfed and overwhelmed by the snowstorm.
The corner-based composure of the forest reinforces this strongly, as if even nature itself is huddling in a corner, buckling down in the little warmth it has, waiting for the storm to be over.
Yet, because of how huddled most of the scene of is, shielding itself and shrinking away from the titanic snowstorm, the impact of the lone deer becomes extraordinarily confronting. It really does appear all alone in the vast plain of blankness; away from the sheltered nest of the forest.
A true sense of isolation is conveyed, and I would have thought it to be loneliness and neglect, but looking at your title and description, I can see the immense feeling of bravery.
The sole animal, right in the centre of all the action with no shelter whatsoever - yet, it still appears clearer and warmer then everywhere else, with more distinct detail compared to the forest. Even with such immense conditions, the deer manages to hold its own in a heroic effort, head held high, never backing down.
Again, this effect is heightened so much by the otherwise very huddled nature of the image, tucking in from the storm. It's as if the deer has shown its literally awesome resilience and power, overcoming the snowstorm and triumphing even the forest's strength. A beacon of strength.
The spectacular use of composition and tone is immensely beautiful, and although equally simplistic, is very dynamic and conveys the atmosphere of the image effectively.
I really do love that focus on the forest, in a huddled manner hiding in the corner from the huge, dwarfing snowstorm, and then the impact of the deer; alone, but stronger than ever.
Stunning work!
