Before 9/11, I could enter Canada driving my 18-wheeler with noting more than a short form describing my truck and destination and a stop by the brokerage; later in my trucking career they'd just scan my PARS and off I go.
Re-entering the US, even empty, whole lot of questions and sometimes a search by border agents or Department of Commerce. Add 1 hour or more to whatever you were doing.
Haven't been to Canada since the Patriot Act.

silly americans.. i really think they are paranoid and crazy.. but i haven't yet had a problem with any americans, living close to the border the cultures kinda mix together though so i can blend in with them like a spy :3
