Princess Ayesha is one of the Sovereign, an alien race that possesses unearthly beauty and a mighty high opinion of themselves. She is an oddity amongst the Sovereign in that she actually wishes to commune and befriend other races.

Jocasta is her android handmaiden/bodyguard. Like many androids she’s created in her master’s image. Unlike many she possesses “a conscience and unique personality.”

Both fled the homeworld after an attack by the Sovereign Supreme, a radical terrorist group that believes in the inherent superiority of the Sovereign and believes it’s their birthright to rule the universe.

While on the run they’d meet and eventually befriend Titus (a former Nova Corp member reduced to bounty hunting/PI work), Skurge the Executioner (an Asgardian warrior that seeks vengeance upon the Sovereign Supreme), Korg (a member of an ancient race of elementals), and Miek (a Sakaaran Royal that fled from his nuptial ritual).

Through their adventures they’d become known as the Guardians of the Galaxy.
