Description I did this 'cause I like puns too much. Also because I did an actual government doggified Shichibukai a while back, and I wanted to re-do Moria's design.

FOR THOSE WHO ARE INTO DOG BREEDS LIKE ME

Moria's a very fat Doberman Pinscher. (I don't know why it didn't occur to me last time I tried drawing him as a dog.) Dobermans are those dog breeds you often see adorned with spiked collars and harnesses, and probably the dog breed that has gotten the worst media attention throughout the years. They're frequently depicted as very aggressive, and they're pretty much always the "villain's dog." (Take Up or Oliver & Company for animated examples, and all the zombie dogs in the Resident Evil series.) This comes from how they were originally bred to be intimidating guard/attack dogs and that they're very intelligent, so they were easy to train for the roles of attack dogs in movies. Dobermans are also well known for their powerful "scissors bite." I just figured Moria would be a good match for a dog with such a reputation, and the muscular build of the breed would fit his younger self. (And make a startling contrast to his current self. SERIOUSLY HOW DO YOU GET A DOBERMAN THAT FAT??)

Just to clarify, so people don't think I'm trying to demonize the breed, most Dobermans are not bred to be aggressive nowadays. Very protective, but not necessarily aggressive. Chances are your neighbor's Doberman isn't going to attack you if it's been trained.

Perona's a Poodle, 'cause what else would she be?

Abasalom's... um... well, he doesn't resemble anything normal anymore. I mostly based him on the King Charles Spaniel, 'cause the markings fit his stitches, and also because I picture him to be this really unintimidating kind of frou-frou dog. He's basically trying too hard by adding all those mismashes of parts.

Hogback is an English Bull Terrier. Bull Terriers have a distinctive snout, which I thought would translate well for Hogback's long nose. (The breed's small eyes and small, pointed ears also go well with Hogback's other features.) The original Frankenweenie short by Tim Burton starred a Bull Terrier, which I thought would go well with Hogback's "mad scientist" theme.

Characters belong to Eiichiro Oda.

Thanks! I actually didn't notice the pun until ~Genolover pointed it out to me!

There's also the pun you can make with "One Piece" because "One" is spelled "ワン (wan)" in Japanese, which is also the onomatopoeia for a dog barking there!

This still cracks me up. Β

And... I imagine that dog-Moria could get fat the same way human-Moria did. Β Take your dog for walks, even if his entire crew is killed and he becomes really depressed and slothful afterwards!

dog!Moria strikes me as the kind to throw a huge fuss about being taken out for any sort of exercise. (He'd probably just have his Doppeldog go for him.) He also strikes me as the kind of dog to sprawl out on the couch and bite the hand off of anyone who tries to move him.

What's that old adage about sleeping dogs? Β Yeah.

Old dogs always seem to be the really mean ones, for some reason.....
