Description As some of T&F fans may know, the names for the four new locomotives in the upcoming T&F special "King of The Railway" have been revealed: Stephen, Connor, Caitlin and Millie. While I have figured out what Stephen and Connor's prototypes are (Stephenson's Rocket and New York Central "Dreyfuss Hudson", repsectfully and I still need to figure out Millie's) finding the prototype to the second streamlined locomotive, Caitlin, was tough. Now I think I've got it!!

Although this may be scratch out later, I am absolutely sure that Caitlin is based on the Baltimore & Ohio's #5304 (in its "Royal Blue" styling) a class P7a 4-6-2 Pacific. Now, I know you're gonna say, "How do you know it's this?" Well I'll tell you why. Look at Caitlin's pilot in the image here [link] and look at the 5304's pilot [link]

Basis: Baltimore & Ohio #5304 "Royal Blue" Class P7a 4-6-2 Pacific. This locomotive was the only B&O Pacific to be streamlined twice. First in 1937 for the B&O's "Royal Blue" passenger train, and nicknamed "The Bullet". It was then stripped of it's styling around 1939/40 to normal P7 class status and renamed "President Monroe". Re-streamlined to a different design in 1946, it and three others were used on the "Cincinattian" trains between Detroit and Cincinatti until retirement and scrapping in 1957.

I gotta say, it looks like Andrew Brenner is going through the trouble of making Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends awesome again.

See I thought Caitlin would be based off of the Royal Jubilee 4-4-4's from Canadian Pacific. You made her look really nice here though, Good work!

Um...not to sound rude, but did you not read the description nor see the Baltimore & Ohio emblem in the upper left corner of the drawing?

I did read the description and I saw the B&O Emblem. I was just giving my opinion as to what I think she's based off of. I don't mean to offend you in any way. I'm just putting my two cents in.

Oh no, no, no, no, I didn't mean it like that. I, too, originally thought she was based on a CPR Jubilie, but upon further inspection of the shape of her pilot and the angle of the front hand rails, that's what lead to my conclusion.

Sorry for that.

it's alright. Just a mere misunderstanding. She does look nice the way you drew her though. Will we be seeing Stephen from you as well? c:

Here's a pic of the 4-4-4 I mentioned. I can see more resemblance in this pilot than the one you chose, but then again, we haven't seen Caitlin entirely yet, so the options are still open.

I don't know if they would get the rights or not, I don't know but I kinda hope that them music here is the intro [link] and that this song is at the ending [link]

Kodimarto In reply to metalheadrailfan [2013-01-14 00:11:31 +0000 UTC]

I don't know if they would use that type of music. But the Legends of the Rails sounds pretty catchy. They may have rights because Thomas was brought by Hit so ALL the characters might be there.

One thing that's been revealed is Connor and Caitlin's wheel arrangements-Prairie 2-6-2 tender engines.

metalheadrailfan In reply to SodorKnowledge [2013-01-13 14:37:47 +0000 UTC]

Plus, since both are of North American design, a 2-6-2 would be much too small.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SodorKnowledge In reply to metalheadrailfan [2013-01-13 19:57:52 +0000 UTC]

I'm not, it's just they look too small for American designs. Then again, we're looking at the engines from different perspectives and don't have a clear line of sight at the wheels. I know what the engines look like, but I only noticed them as 2-6-2's and also their small sizes. I'm only giving you the known facts that have been released. We'll have to wait until better images show up.

Besides, if this is going back to the RWS canon, then the mainland means Britain. He can order engines from America, but they have to be regauged for British Loading Gauge. To me, that makes no sense to waste a good third of the movie having two American Engines regauged.

I don't know, because when I look at Connor on the book cover, I see a 4-6-4 wheel arrangement.

I got the information on the Wiki. I recommend checking there. On Connor is said that he's from the Mainland, meaning England, since Sodor is a British Isle.

Underneath the pictures, there is the word Configuration and it says they are 2-6-2's.

I don't mean to start an argument, but when they say "mainland" it could be anywhere, and, let's face it, geographical logic in the T&F world doesn't seem to exist.

The Wiki is where I found out about these characters. Plus, it's early in the unveiling, so they'll most likely change that later on.

How I can tell Conner is a NYC Dreyfuss Hudson is the style of his shouding over his firebox and also I can see a four-wheel trailing truck underneath and a four wheel pilot truck underneath the cylinder. Real life Dreyfuss Hudson [link]

How I can determine Caitlin is based on B&O #5304 in its "Royal Blue" appearance is, like I said, the styling of her pilot and the angle of her hand rails on it. Compare those to the real life 5304 and [link]
