This is the best thing you've done in ages - possibly ever.... I adore it. And I agree with arkhamrefugee about the birds, I think they lend a huge amount of credibility to the angelwings. The dress 'stains' look like some kind if supernaturally extreme version of 'SO not coming out in the wash'.
I think with this piece, you've taken several of your trademark techniques (which are often used for their own sake), and applied them with reserve and finesse to achieve a specific effect, and the result is so successful.
It's just dripping with meaningful imagery - the irremovable stain, the tenuous grip on the cross, the heavy barrier, the angelic doves out of reach, the glance back at the dark end of the image... gah! It all works so well together to tell a highly coherent story.

The only thing i can think of, is that you could maybe darken the edges
