Description Well alright admittedly I am actually really curious about this new "Dante" and supposed "reimagining" of the Devil May Cry franchise...

But damn was I shocked the first time I saw the trailer =S Capcom isn't even fully involved with this project other than funding the thing... my heart goes out to the original Dante XD

Lol moreover the... first thing that came to my mind after watching the trailer the second time was Toby Kebbell as Johnny Quid from the movie RocknRolla and Fairuza Balk as she was in American History X (couldn't find a decent pic of her from the movie so).

The resemblance between "Dante"'s get up and Johnny Quid's (they have nearly the same body structure as well) is undeniable.

The designer probably watched RocknRolla one too many times and probably has a raging crush on Fairuza Balk.

From what I understand the 'new Dante' is apparently an experiment of some sorts that thinks he is Dante but isn't. Later in the game Dante comes in and kicks his ass then he goes villain. But that's just what I've heard, I'm not entirely sure. Also, the drama over the trailer is what made me want to pick up the first four games

MetallumJazz In reply to HeroOrMonster [2010-09-18 22:47:09 +0000 UTC]

Its all just rumors. Online guessing and whatnot. But apparently Capcom has issued a statement that this is a reboot of the series (which doesn't make much sense to me but whatever).

Really? This is the first time you're playing the games? Because of all the drama? =S

I'm still reserving judgment (even though I'm quite skeptical at the mo') till more stuff comes out. If they turn the combat mechanics into something like Heavenly Sword I will burn things.

HeroOrMonster In reply to MetallumJazz [2010-09-18 22:53:00 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I see.

That and my boyfriend kept doing the whole game judgement on me 'oh you won't like it I know you won't. Games four is awesome but I don't like the others much and one and two are crappy.' So I looked down at the three games (1-3) priced at $5 each and said, 'excuse me? I think I'll try them and I don't care what you say. Plus I want to see what all the drama is about.' I only played a little bit of one so far and I love how it has a Castlevania: Lament of Innocence feel. I'm also stealing his precious Devil May Cry 4 becaues I didn't feel like forking out more money for it. I also pissed hi off by picking up God of War I and II and the whole prince of persia series. (all three series came out when I kinda stopped gaming for a while so I never picked them up so I win I guess cause there was a huge game store sale.

I'm just curious about the series now. It takes a lot for me to turn from loving to hating a series. I also need something else to catch my obsession besides Darksiders because two won't be out for a while and most of the newer games bore me or bug me so I'm once again retreating to the classics.

MetallumJazz In reply to HeroOrMonster [2010-09-18 23:10:33 +0000 UTC]

IMO 3 is the best... 2 got me into the series (admittedly after playing 1 I realized why people didn't like 2).

1 is superb!!! Even though by today's standards it might feel limited in the start but once you start playing it more you realize how much you can actually do even with the limitations.

4 is solid. Its clunky and uninspired at times but its worth playing. The main character will probably piss you off a lot with his whiny shit but he's fun enough to play with even though he moves VERY sluggishly at times.

Ohhh man I know what you mean! I've been doing the same... I just finished Alice recently and Ima get to Crash soon enough...

HeroOrMonster In reply to MetallumJazz [2010-09-18 23:37:47 +0000 UTC]

I see. Funky. Either way I'm sure I'll enjoy myself.
I just hope the disks aren't scratched and/or damaged to the point they wont play. Most of the discs I picked up looked rough but I have never had a used game not work on me before so I'm counting on my flawless lucky record.

So far one reminds me so much of castlevania which I adore so it better stay that way
I usually play games in order so I'm probably not going to move ahead until I beat 1 (still have series where I have the whole one but I'm slowly working my way up to the next one in the series XD)

Whiny characters don't bug me if they have a reason to be whiny but you're right, they do tend to hit buttons on me so I hope I don't get too mad.

But I really really really want Darksiders 2....they ended it at a cliffhanger and taht always makes me obsess/worry/want the next one immediately. What makes it worse is I really liked the game. I twas the first newer game I fell head over heels for in a long time.

MetallumJazz In reply to HeroOrMonster [2010-09-18 23:45:50 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah the first one has a lot of Castlevania influences.

DMC series has its reputation for being pretty hard (this all depends which region of the game you have and all of course). But yeah its more fun going chronologically.

Well okay he doesn't really whine much... but he does yell his girlfriends name a LOT and he sounds pretty annoying when he does. Plus he's supposed to be all angsty cool but I find him... well whatever you can play and judge.

To be veeery honest I didn't really enjoy Darksiders...

Im actually hunting for a copy of Blazblue. Don't seem to sell it here

HeroOrMonster In reply to MetallumJazz [2010-09-19 00:10:29 +0000 UTC]

That makes me incredibly happy right now.
u
I heard. My boyfriend said he hated one and two becaue he got lost of an hour and he was even using a walkthrough. Though I did get lost on the first level I was simply overlooking a door so that was my only issue.

Ah, yeah, that would but me a little. I got annoyed in Kingdom Hearts when Sora kept yelling Kairi's name in the first one (and then I slowly began to hate the series after the first one but that's another story)

I really loved it but that could be becaues I hadn't played a good game in a while and the game I played right after it (Dante's Inferno) was crap in my opinion. Also, I'm amused by what they did with Judeo-Christian lore in the game (being stuck in the middle of a deeply christian/religious area) so it was a nice spin on the annoying stuff I get bombarded with every day.

aww, that sucks D:
I'm still trying to track down Mideval 2 for PS1. I know it's old but I'm still not giving up!

MetallumJazz In reply to HeroOrMonster [2010-09-19 00:28:04 +0000 UTC]

Really =S wow DMC was always pretty straightforward in terms of routes and all... the tricky stuff was the extra items and all... they were hid in seriously bizarre places at times.

Also not to mention finding secret locations.

But the real bitch of the difficulty which Im sure you've heard is in the combat itself... it can get frustrating but if you're like me and love experimenting with combos then you're sure to have a great experience.

AHAHAHAHA well the thing in DMC4 is that the dude's girlfriends name is Kyrie so its nearly like hearing the same as in KH XDDDD

Aw man Dante's Inferno was rubbish I agree!!!

Oh man Mideval was the SHIT!!! I never played two though... man but I remember one so vividly... honestly these pseudo horror/ comedy games (Alice, Mideval etc) games back then had so much of charm and beautiful atmosphere!

It didn't help I was using my cousin's ps2 and their ancient tv instead of mine due to bathroom renovations making my room near impossible to access. I probably would have been fine if I had my 37 inch three month old tv and my ps2 or my ps3.

I didn't have any trouble fighting the things yet so unless it gets a lot harder I think I'm good

oh hell no.....I am going to hate the name Kairi/Kyrie by the end of this...srsly....

Yeah, they went too far in trying to 'push the boundaries' I think the things grabbing me with their vaginas was the start of when they were going too far. Mind you I wouldn't mind all the gore and stuff if it had a point, but they didn't even loosely follow the book (only thing they used were the names of characters and the levels of hell and they even mixed that up) and Beatrice was not his wife or lover and that bugged me a lot because:
a) beatrice is his guide through heaven (like virgil was through hell)
b) beatrice was his guardian angel when he almost got harmed in hell once or twice
c) I have no clue where the whole wife of the devil thing came from, they totally failed there
...I'm just going to stop before I turn this into a rant, sorry

Oh my gosh YUSS! I loved it so much. The second I don't remember much but I do know it was just as wonderful as the first.
Unfortunately I never picked up alice but I did read about it's sequel earlier today and it caught my eye. At first I thought it was the same one as the comic (which the artist tend to mingle around da) but I don't think it is. I need to find the original one if I still can now that you told me about it.

I think things start picking up once you encounter a Shadow Beast (easily one of the more hellish enemies in the game)...

Haha yeah I did anyways (hate the name).

Haha Id understand if you ranted... I love all three books!!! La Divina Commedia influenced me a lot in terms of visual and writing aspects.

Yeah there's a teaser out for Alice 2 as well...

Ah, I need to get there.

I thought it was cutesy but by now I'm sick of it.

Unfortunately the translations for the second and third books are craptastic and the translator I fell in love with (who paired english on one page and the original language on the next) only translated the first book so I have only read summaries of the other two. D:

I tracked down the original!
now I just have to play it.

MetallumJazz In reply to HeroOrMonster [2010-09-20 03:06:36 +0000 UTC]

There are quite a few translations out there so which one are ya talking about?

Well I dont really know Italian so I wouldn't know if the translations did convey the feel the original was meant to... I know I enjoyed 'em so ya.

Woohoo!!! Hf!

I believe I picked up the one a professor by the name of Musa translated.

I know a little bit of Italian, but not enough to be fluent. I only count myself fluent in English though I know quite a bit of Japanese, Italian, and Latin. I blame classic opera songs and international music obsessions of mine

MetallumJazz In reply to HeroOrMonster [2010-09-20 03:20:48 +0000 UTC]

Ima look that up...

Oooooh I know a bit of Japanese as well... but then again I guess every other Anime fan today knows a certain amount of the language. My friend knows it to a point that he watches some Anime without subtitles ('cos apparently some of 'em are poorly translated).

I took Latin as a side subject (more an activity) so I know a fair amount of it as well.

And I know Spanish... well not really... I just thought it'd be cooler if I said that XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HeroOrMonster In reply to MetallumJazz [2010-09-20 03:29:24 +0000 UTC]

I took two years of Japanese for my second language requirement in high school. I know Latin because I love the language so I try to memorize it a lot.

haha, over here everyone knows Spanish anymore, it's kinda boring. most American public schools are forcing students to take a second language preferably Spanish due to the whole immigration issues/debates in the country. I honestly don't know much Spanish but I'm not particularly interested in learning it. There's something about the language I don't like as much. It sounds more....meh I guess. The other languages I know I find beautiful and elegant (except English that can be elegant but also extremely crude at the same time, a parodox in itself). Eh, sorry. I can ramble for hours about languages and their aesthetics.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MetallumJazz In reply to HeroOrMonster [2010-09-20 03:45:38 +0000 UTC]

No shit? I wanted to actually sit and learn the language myself but haven't been able to devote any time to it.

Man I wanna learn like Swedish and Norse...

Oh man me and pals were arguing about languages in the car the other day... the most beautiful, elegant whatnot.

I personally don't find any language elegant or beautiful or whatever. Some phrases and stuff might sound cool but it stops there for me.

I do find French quite erotic though... even though I hated studying the language for 3 years... and learned nothing... I took it 'cos I thought it'd be an easier alternative to Hindi (which it was) but in the end the classes were just boring...

On that note Arabic (required language here) is quite easy! Hahaha it was a percentage raiser for everyone! Everyone took Arabic to like exploit it for higher scores XD

HeroOrMonster In reply to MetallumJazz [2010-09-20 11:40:39 +0000 UTC]

Usually when I say something about languages I take it as my own quirk especially since most of the 'romantic languages' bore me.

That sounds like fun. I do wish my area offered more languages I'm interested in that I didn't have to pick up on my own. D:
