He was but when he came over from Holland he'd been Gelded about 3 weeks before, which is half the reason he looks so incredible!!
Thank you

You mean - it's yours?! What in the world would I not give to see one of them in person...
I dream to have a horse like that!
Actually I saw two of them serving as police horses in my country, but because of the climate conditions here, their legs were shaved and they got a haircut... So it wasn't a real meeting with Friesians :\

Haha nooo he's not mine, i have an ex racehorse and a skewbald (brown and white) cob x throughbred

He is in the field with my ex racehorse as he was a nightmare in the other fields as he kept jumping all over the mares even though he can't breed with them, so he was moved very quickly.
He is beautiful but can be a right monster
Aww i can't imagine them as police horses, they're so beautiful you'd be captivated by them

LeeTiram In reply to MetalMooCow [2011-06-24 23:31:38 +0000 UTC]

I'm sure I will
Did they geld him when he was old enough to breed? I heard it about dogs that if you do that after the reach maturity, they still try to mate even though they physically can't.
My vet told me it's because they think from their head instead of their testicles by that time
I wish I could have a Friesian horse, but than again I think a Quarter would do me better since I ride Western style and I think the Friesians are better with English style...

MetalMooCow In reply to LeeTiram [2011-06-25 17:27:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeh they did but he'd never been turned out with other horses and we think they may have used him to breed and the foal/s he's produced haven't been good enough so they've gelded him and sold him on. Well does depend on when they're done cause the younger they are the less likely they'll have the impulses to breed, also if they see other horses doing it they'll copy. The worst thing for him was when he went out with the others they were mares and gelding whereas in the field with my ex racehorse there's 3 of them and they're all geldings so when he went in the field all the mares came back into season cause they realised he hadn't been gelded long so he was jumping over everything. Unfortunately after a year of being back in with the boys he's still really restless and we all know when he goes back in with the mares he'll jump all over them so :/
I know so many people who ride western, a lot of them have arabs believe it or not just cause of their stamina. I think a friesian would look just as good western, their presence is just incredible

I don't like Arab horses, their faces reminds me of a bird's face. And they're all warm blood... I love the calmer breeds.
Many youngsters in Israel have local Arab horses (no bloodline), and they always brag about how their horses are nervous and "hot". I don't find it the least amusing, I think that a horse that can't be calm when asked is a no good horse (no offense to racehorses). I like to work freely with a horse, not fearing it would break into galloping just because he saw a bird flying...
Well, you got my horse riding mantra in a quick reply

MetalMooCow In reply to LeeTiram [2011-06-27 21:41:17 +0000 UTC]

I'm not a massive fan of them but i do know some part breds that are so calm but they're still not ideal. No offence taken and trust me my throughbred used to be nuts, the second you got on an open field he would start to get all het up and pull against the bit, was a complete nightmare! But my CobxThroughbred is only 4 and he's a star considering his blood xD
Haha i know

Beautiful mystical light. The reflections on the wet grass really add to the image, keeping the foreground interesting. The way the horse is looking is brilliant, and the fact the face is in darkness really adds to the effect here
