Raven Branwen in the RWBY Black Spring AU.

"Raven became the Winter Maiden when she was a child living in the Island of Patch. Her powers lead the townsfolk to label her a witch, prompting her and her brother Qrow to run away. They established themselves in a long time abandoned cottage in the woods.

They lived there until Raven's reputation caught the ears of the Brotherhood and Ozpin travelled to find her. This way, her and Qrow were invited into Beacon Academy and Qrow was initiated into the Brotherhood, officiating his role as Raven's personal guardian.

Shortly after graduating, Raven became pregnant with Yang from Taiyang. One day, late into her pregnancy, Raven was alone in the outskirts of Signal's campus and was attacked by a Grimm bug. Raven managed to scape with a scar on the right half of her face.

Yang was born through an emergency C-section, and, while it was unknown what exactly the Grimm that attacked Raven's abilities were, she was found to have had her aura greatly drained and the doctors speculated her fate could have been much worse had her unborn daughter's aura not been protecting her. Mere days after giving birth, Raven run away from the hospital, abandoning Taiyang and their daughter.

Raven left with the certainty the Grimm that attacked her was sent after her and aims to get to who did it."

Yes, those are feathers in her hair, I'm going with the idea she is a bird faunus. Her masks both fulfils the function of hiding her scar and protecting her face from another potential attack by said Grimm.
