I recently took a road trip to visit family, and on the way home I took a detour to a place that I hadn't been to in years. I made a day trip of travelling to Crater Lake, the deepest lake in the United States and the 7th deepest in the World. From the top of the rim drive near the main lodge, there is an amazing overlook and on a perfect day when the water is calm the sky is reflected perfectly off of the lake's surface. If you think this photo is stunning, you need to see it in the winter season. One of the many reasons why I love living in Oregon. One of the most beautiful states in the United States.Related content

i usually go to oregon at least once a year.. i think i'll have to bug people extra so i can go see it, you've totally convinced me. it's a fantastic and gorgeous picture.

Thats simply beautiful. I agree, seeing it in person is VASTLY more beautiful. This really captures the wide spectrum of "blues" the lake catches. Very nice!

Maybe you should consider downsizing it a little bit to a more "viewable" size (most peaople have low resolutions), that would also help getting rid of the grain in the picture that I found slightly disturbing

I took a hike down to the bottom of the lake that day. Quite a tiring but rewarding hike to the bottom. The hike back up is treacherous, but good on the body.
The view at water level is breath taking. The water is just as blue and you can gaze into it for forever. It is so clear and beautiful. And exceptionally cold... Wow, the water is so cold. I think it is usually around 38 degrees during the summertime. It gets hot down there, and during my visit at water level there were people jumping into the deep water. It looked like a blast, but I had no way to secure my camera so I just observed it.
I did put my hand into the water and it almost seems to bite your arm off with the extreme cold temperature but it felt wonderful on that warm day. Definitely worth a visit if anyone is in Oregon visiting.
