Description
'Maria looked upon her adoptive son with warm, compassionate eyes.
She knew this wasn't going to be easy. having an american for a child.
she couldn't even fathom what he was going through; Being a Stranger in a "strange land" where he doesn't speak the language.
though, Then Again..she probably did.
Lord knows SHE had a hard time during her years as a Mariachi singer when she had to go on tour in the United States.
she too felt like an outcast..but, she NEVER wished this feeling on him.
Poor Chris was being bullied and picked on BECAUSE he was an american living in Mexico.
It almost seemed ironic for him to be heckled, being called such cruel names like "Gringo"
and, told to go back to his own country (like so many mexicans have been told in the US, themselves.)
Was It really fair for this lost, orphan boy to have to pay for the injustice that others of his nation had done?
no..Maria did not think It was.
But, all she could do was give him a Mother's love.
and, hope that eventually he would feel like he belonged here in Miracle City..
..Hope that SOMEDAY, Mexico could be his home.'

This is a REPOST of a very older piece of artwork that I did once upon a time ago
when I first joined DeviantART, and I was on an El Tigre kick way back when It was still New and Popular.
While It being a MASK crossover drew in the fans, my real goal in storytelling was pretty much this right here.
my attempt at Mexican/American Relations, by raising awareness of some racial/racist views regarding both sides.
The idea being that my OC 'Chris Johnson', is a full blooded american boy.
an orphan, who was adopted by Maria Rivera (a full blooded mexican woman), and now lives with her in Miracle City.
Such an arrangement is FAR from easy, due to Anti-American sentiment (which isn't that far off from Anti-Hispanic sentiment in the US.)
It is sort of an 'a mile in your shoes' kind of thing with the role reversal.
but, It also shows that prejudice stings the same, whether you are a Mexican in American or an American in Mexico.
It is never easy being an immigrant, trying to make a better life in a new land.
and, having to deal with close-minded people who hate and despise you for being different.
Fortunately, there are those (like Maria here) who sees beyond skin color
and, truly looks at all people as "brothers and sisters", and only wishes the best for her new son.
(BTW, I am American, and I rather like Mexican culture, DESPITE american criticism towards the country and race.)

Very heartwarming indeed! I never understood racism, if one looks past skin color we're all the same. Unfortunately there will always be closed minded people who think one little thing makes a big diffrence.

Unfortunately, racism is much more than just hating someone for their skin color....which is why it's still just as prominent as it ever was.

Nice depiction of the chapter. I'm feel bad for Chris, having no family or friends. Thanks to Maria Rivera. I miss that show.

At least he has a good mother like Maria to make things bearable
(and, besides. Anyone whose read my storyline knows that he won't stay friendless for very long.)
'El Tigre' may be off the air, but the Complete Serie sis available on DVD now.

Actually, after having my El Tigre/MASK stories a look over,
I have decided to completely rewrite the storyline from scratch (as such, 'Talon' has been canceled.)
To sum It up, The stories were okay..BUT, they could be better.
and, I want them to be Better, so I am going to rewrite them soon.

This is interesting most people would do it the other way around
I got a question how did Chris end up in Mexico anyway?

Yes, most people DO do It the other way around..which is why I did It in reverse.
See, if Americans see an american character facing immigrant prejudice,
then MAYBE they'll show Mexican Americans a bit more respect and compassion.

In the storyline that I wrote (which I am going to rewrite soon)
Chris life began with him being left at the doorstep of a local orphanage as a baby.
Sadly, he was never adopted, and eventually outgrew any real chances at getting a family when he turned 12.
with little options, and practically homeless, he used what little money he had to travel to Mexico to find a better life.
(his reasons being that as the state of New Mexico is called "The Land of Enchantment", then the actual Mexico must be paradise.
Which is understandable, as Mexico is often romanticised as "the land of sunshine", and "the old west at It's best.")
he met Maria when she just HAPPENED upon him by driving her car, and seeing him alone in the street.
Naturally, Maria's good nature compelled her to give him shelter. and, when she learnt he was a homeless orphan, she adopted him.
