Description I resubmitted the version 1.0 here: metzgerwilli.deviantart.com/ar…

Later (slow) updates are posted here.

I made the map for a future DnD campaign with friends. As this is my first project, there are variations in quality and style in different areas. For drawing the mountains, forests and villages I make great use of brushes I found on DeviantArt, and later started drawing and adding my own mountain ranges, cliffs, villages and vegetation. As for the scale, 1 border bar equals 100 miles, so the pictured area is 3900x2600 miles.
The title is German and means "Emperyal Lvramion (Loo-ra-me-on) and surrounding lands".

The font used is called "Dumbledor".

Brushes used:
StarRaven's Sketchy Cartography Brushes
StarRaven's Calligraphic Cartography Brush
I-A-Grafix's Hand-draw-map-brush

For the border I made great use of this tutorial by arsheesh .

Pictures and textures used:
Paper texture by Sarai
The "space part" in the upper left corner is from NASA's site (www.jpl.nasa.gov/ ).
The pegasus, unicorn, scorpion, the raven, the two ships and the maelstrom are not! drawn by me, but cropped out from the maps of the Amiga games Amberstar and Ambermoon, both by Michael Hellmich. I created the map around them, since these maps and the games they were about meant so much to me when I was a child. I did not get any permission for this, but hope it to be ignored/tolerated as I do not have commercial intend in any form.

Two concepts here used beautifully that I just love:
1. Isthmus connecting the continent to the south pole
2. the South pole having a warm spot (something I had thought of myself a long time ago) rendering the idea of the south pole being more like a desert than a pole, causing it to suddenly become a far more interesting place because, like a desert, it isn't a dead end.

Also, totally dig the region of Mertiolyp, even thought i have no idea how to pronounce it.

Exceptional friggin work. If I ever get to host a D&D campaign, I'll be tempted to use this.

Wonderful map!Β  Alas, I have no artistic skill whatsoever...but at least I can appreciate the fine detail and hard work.Β  I hope to see more!

Man you put a LOT of work into this map and it's really amazing!

Thank you for the compliment and the fav!

I updated the map and increased its size significantly. This should not improve the quality, but I can properly work with smaller bended labels now.

I gotta say, I wish I could get a map made by you someday xD I love how vast this particular work is and that is exactly the thing I like to see in maps, vastness and detail.

Edit: I hope to see more works like this from you

Glad you like the map, thanks mate, much appreciated! I like working on the map and would love to put more time into it to finish it faster, but right now it's more like an hour every other day. At the moment I am adding regional labels and try stuff to make the town labels easier to read.

As for a commission, feel free to hit me when I finish this one in a few months and hopefully have more time for drawing. When I finish it, I intend to make some (smaller) regional maps of certain areas, but if you are still interested then, I'd be thrilled to work something out with you.

(I'm totally not fine with taking images from other people with permission. Can get you in serious trouble, even with the disclaimer to remove them soon. )

But that aside.
Holy moly!
That is an awesome map!
I mean like really awesome!

Did you draw the...
Ah, pfeif drauf.

StΓ€ndig will ich was neu machen.

Wie lang hast du daran gesessen?

Yeah, I do not make or intend to make any money from it so I hope M.H. will be ok with me using 25 year old works of his in an unfinished piece as long as I clarify it.

I did use Brushes from Deviant Art (see description) but also modified them and drew some myself, and use them less and less. I never did any art stuff before this map, so the brushes really helped with my first steps.

-- Time spent --
Hmm, I started October last year and I guess it took me about 300-350 hours so far, but a good chunk of that was spent getting used to the interface and redrawing my first 50 hours of work when I switched to a higher resolution. I noticed that I work much more efficiently now than I did when I started.

Ich bin auch gerade dabei meine erste Karte zu erstellen und i-wie nie zufrieden. xD
StΓ€ndig will ich was neu machen.

Thank you very much for your feedback, much appreciated. I'm looking forward to your own first map...

Wow, great work, had to download it to take a closer look. It's obvious you've put in a lot of time and thought. I've always been inspired to make a map, this made the longing reappear! Β

Thank you very much!

Just noticed how big the png file was, so I switched to a much smaller jpg. Sadly the resolution of the displayed version is somewhat limited and I wouldn't know how to sidestep it...

Edit: Found out that you CAN display the original size, yay.

Yeah the site can only handle a certain amount I guess, but it's ok. Β
