i drive fast so i'd say 45 minutes... just go up I-75 to the sweetwater exit (halfway b/w here and knoxvegas)take a right and head into tellico plains... very well marked from there... but i personally love going to to the cleveland exit and then going throught the ocoee to ducktown tn and up hwy 68 from there...

IR would be awesome! I absolutely love mine, its such a PITA to mount, though.

Great picture!

what do you use? i just got a hoya r72 ir filter and its just a screw on?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fusinfun In reply to mewantsbekungfoo [2008-07-01 18:38:48 +0000 UTC]

My lens takes an 82mm screw on (unoficially. officially that is only for the lens cap) So it takes a plastic rectangle filter (that you cut yourself) that slips into these clips on the back of the lens. So you have to compose your picture, take of the lens, and put the filter on and put the lens back on the camera without movign the camera, or the lens. I have taken to just putting it on once, and guesstimating focus based on the DOF scale, but that is very cumbersome.

wow, and i thought i had it hard... i basically have to do the same thing... only i don't have to take the lens off... just screw on the filter to the end of the lens with out moving it...

Trick to it is Flip the lens on autofocus, screw on the filter, then put the lens on manual focus. That prevents the lens from refocusing while you screw it on. (just make sure you have it on a tripod/stable resting point.) Also, make sure you either use the IR index and adjust focus, or use DOF to give you some guessing room. On all but the best lenses, the IR focuses just a hair closer to the camera.(for example if the autofocus locks onto 25 feet, focus for the IR should be set to something like 23 or 22 feet)

You probably already know this, but make sure you cover the viewfinder if you use auto metering (which is ok, but you should probably just use manual exposure anyway)

Whoops forgot to mention that not only would an 82mm r72 cost like $300 (if they make one), it would vignette like mad
