Well, In the Special Episode, 'Mastermind of Mirage Pokemon', there was a Mirage Mew (like a hologram of a pokemon) that had a real soul, but not a real body. The Mirage Mew sacrificed itself (I'm pretty sure it was a girl in the ep.) to save Ash and co. Its sould couldn't be destroyed but... yeah.
Thats why people sometimes say that.

Heh, the mirage Mew. Felt really sad when it's data was deleted from that attack though, or rather, dying cause it had a soul... Heh.

I'll admit, it made me want to cry the first time. Mew is my favorite pokemon, and the idea of one coming to life digitally and then dissappear forever... Eh-heh, well yah, welcome, and thanks for watching me new buddeh!
