this is really cool.
if you watch this scene in the movie really closely, a peice of the snow goes up his nose! it just sits there right inside his nostrel the entire scene until he moves. kind of ruined the dramatic-ness for me when I watch it.

this is beautiful, youve captured the scene perfectly. colours merge exeedingly well. this is a credit to you.
i personally love the film although ive never seen the stage production however i have listened to its music...ive read the book but i think gerard's voice fits better he is supposed to be this dark
troubled man trying to find love. emmy is okay

phantom is not in the wrong really (other than the murdering). i mean he spent years of devostion to christine then some younger ex boyfriend turns up after a few days and steals her, id be pretty pissed.
emmy as christine? meh shes pretty cool she isnt meant to have an opratic voice though i like the sort of sweet innocense of her voice it adds to the temptation and passion the phantom offers her.
she wasnt really in love with mr phantom though... she was more encapsulated my his music and mystery of him being an angel..
raul just annoys be though. he says at the start of this scene that the angel/phantom is just a dream...so he's obliviouse to the fact christine got kidnapped for a day and that there is a dead guy hung infront of an audiance?
wtf..?

Erik is so sensitive, even if he does go psycho on Raoul... Christine is just such a bitch... ALL he wanted was love and she had to betray him! It pisses me off.... *punches Christine in the face; huggles Erik; glares at Raoul*

Raoul: What did I do..?

Me: *still hugging Erik* Guilty by association...

O____O It's le phantom....

This is an amazing picture. I suck at people, let alone realistic people. I absolutely LOVE the Phantom of the Opera. I've been listening to it since I was a teeny little baby. How do I know? I asked my mom. Anyhoos, I'd really like to see this movie coming out, but I'm prolly gonna cringe at the parts when Erik sings. Along with parts that weren't how I imagined them. You see, I'm very paranoid about seeing movies that were once books or musicals. I wanna see it, and then again, I don't, for fear of it wrecking how I invisioned it. Ah, to heck with it. I can risk seeing this movie, even if my version of it goes all screwy on me. Just watching the trailer for it sent chills up my spine and I felt some weird happiness I've never felt before. My brother, who was by my side at the time, said it looked like I was gonna cry with a huge, cheesy grin on my face. It feels so nice to be able to see something you've grown up with up in lights.

thus was my feeling upon first seeing Lord of the Rings. I grew up with LOTR much in the same way you grew up with POTO, and the expression you described totally fit mine when I first sat in the theatre and watched the opening to Fellowship. So I know how ya feel. I love POTO too, and I'm not TOO worried about Erik. The little bit of singing I heard by Butler didn't bother me at all, so I'm optimistic.

ERIKKINNSS!!! *stares at Butler* Then again, maybe not.

Impressive picture, but I'm not supporting this movie...

Yes yes, I'm one of those crazy phans who cringes at the sight of most of the... errors in this movie of the musical. Butler cannot sing... and everything looks all moulin rougeish... I'm sorry... *weak grin*

But that's the way I am.

I think Gerard did pretty good considering he's never had professional singing lessons. He's not as good as Michael Crawford but He did alright. I do sorta think the raspiness of his voice fits, but he doesnt have the angelic voice the book talk sabout like Crawford has.

I think the imagry was absolutely wonderful in the movie. I've seen both the movie and the broadway production. I can tell what's different but it's not horribly different. They just mushed some scenes together that were apart in the play and added a few short ones, which, if you think about it, makes sense. And don't forget, Andrew Lloyd Webber helped direct the film and stuff so he's the one that changed it. But everyone's oppinion is different.

I think you're like me in being biased . We much prefer the origional play and or voices from the play. I didn't enjoy the singing as much in the movie as I did in the play, but it wasn't horrible. And of the Phantom and Christine, I liked Gerard better than Emmy -.- Emmy needs to have an operatic voice, not this sliding nonsense voice that sounds like a 12 year old. I still think Gerard was good for his experiences. ^^ Emmy was supposed to have spent a few years learning opera from a pro... i think she stinks... lol. like i said, oppinions differ.

murr, i liked the look of it. it does ring a little of Moulin Rouge, but I don't think it's going to be quite like that. Course, I've only seen the trailer, so God only knows. (I was having fun picking out the times they had the mask on the wrong side of Erik's face. >.< And personally, I don't see why people hate Butler's voice so much. It's a little more...uh....what's the word?...."nasal?" then, say, Crawford's, but I wouldn't call it horrible. I also like the fact that his voice isn't as high pitched as Crawford's either, as much as I like Michael Crawford. And don't say you'd rather have Crawford in the role. He might be able to sing, but the man doesn't look as good as he sounds. A bit too wrinkly for my taste. XP

theogk In reply to Mewtwofan [2004-11-24 11:16:33 +0000 UTC]

Lol. At present I wouldn't want ole Crawf in it unless it was animated... which would actually be real cool. As for Butler, well, it sounds like a really exaggerated Steve Harley version... which is terrible, really. And he's too YOUNG to be le fantome. He look's Raoul's age... and they didn't even bother trying to make him look older, nooo... they even, what, reduced the disfigurement to "bring out" his whatever side.

I'm sorry dude, Butler just, can't do the role... it's not just his voice, which incidentally has no power, is out of tune, and who's breathing points is totally screwed... I suppose the costumes dept has something to do with it too. I mean... there is no Red death, just this half a half masked dude in a, well, red soldier suit. And sometimes it's not just if the person can SING, but if he can sing PHANTOM. Take Colm Wilkinson for example, he was wonderful as Valjean, but as the Phantom he was... eeewww.

Gah... and with JS in the director's chair, I'm not feeling even vaguely optimistic about ANY of it.

Mewtwofan In reply to theogk [2004-11-24 18:43:28 +0000 UTC]

ugh! NO! no, no, no, no, no, no, NO! that's an insult, being compared to steve harley. *shivers* gawd....i heard that version of "phantom of the opera" with him singing it....ugh.....and from what little I've heard of him singing, Butler does NOT sound like friggin' Harley! >.< i also beg to differ on the power of his voice and acting skills. as for his disfigurement, I can only go on what others who HAVE seen it already have said. And that would be that it's definately more than a "sunburn," as some have griped. I recall one saying that it looked like his eye was ready to fall out. ew. and unless I'm quite mistaken, they also kept the fact that he's bald. also keep in mind: this is a movie. not a stage performance. it's not GOING to be identical, and you shouldn't expect it to be. you sound like those Lord of the Rings fans who were all pissy because the movie wasn't exactly the same as the book. they CAN'T be the same, they're two entirely different mediums. Ya can't make an oil painting with water colors! I think that's partly why they changed his disfigurement. For the stage, they HAD to exaggerate it so the audience would get the proper reaction. For a movie it can be more subtle, because you don't have to worry about the people in the nose-bleed seats not being able to see it. Suit yourself, but I'm going into this to judge it as a movie in it's own right, not as a comparison to something else. If everyone had judged ALW's version off the original book, with the predisposition that the book was infinitly better, the musical would've never lasted, no matter how good it was. Because people would've been too busy griping about all the changes he made to appreciate it.
