Description

Storm Hound
Coursing, hunting and Herding dogs of the North.

Breeding info for kennels :
A hound litter goes between 6 to 10 pups.
If you breed a smooth individual to a feathered one 1/4 of the litter will be smooth.
Breeding a smooth with an individual having smooth in its line can make ratio of smooth pups raise.
Basically breeding needs to give genetically correct outcome, for the markings it's easy but less for the base coat...but hey if you want to make sure just note me.

Genetic help :
Liver/Chocolate : bb
Blue : dd
Isabella : bb/dd
Red: ee
Autumn : kk/ee/auau
Solstice : kk/ee/auau/dd
Cream : ee/cc or ee/Cc

Note: if a dog carries autumn, without having the full coat, it can however express green eyes.

Oh my, you have a beautiful breed here. o3o And hunting/coursing/herding! It's like you read my mind ;u; I simply adore the autumn colour you've come up with, and the siamys and lycaos markings look gorgeous. I must pester you for one (or two if it turns out I really can't help myself) of these beauties when I get to the dogs bit of my plot!

Like I said, every color XDDD I had to purchase points for my premium (gave me a hard time with card and paypal, somehow), so figured I might as well order the whole wolf pack now XDDD As you can see, I'm currently hoarding. I figure I'll have a lot of nothing time in the holidays, besides my job, since mother will be home, complaining about any fun I have, so I might as well have loads to draw.

More talking~

Is siamys a mask? I saw a siamys on blue, and I figured it was a mask. When subject to greying, a black dog will lighten, but the mask will remain undiluted, so it occurs on black (turned blue/grey with greying) and agoutis alike, and mask cancels out recessive red and turns it back to being able to express agouti. But if it were a mask, it would be able to be colored liver, blue and isabella, too, but I only see it as black, so that makes me think it's its own thing, like white spotting.

For autumn to be subject to dilution that much, so it could be noticeable, it would have to be a black, not a red. If you have ee, it erases all black from the coat, so autumn wouldn't show, just the red or cream they carry. If you treat it as black, that would man they can have tanpoints, but the impression they give me right now is of a clear sable, or a reverse sable with the darkness on the points rather than up top. If you want them to remain red, you can make it a modifier of red, like a greying for red only and have autumn on red and solstice on cream. But then that would also mean they could occur as tanpoints, just like urajiro occurs on these to it's own extent. (Saw a picture of it, it was funny; the urajiro cuts off suddenly because it's as far as it could reach and you could see a slice of red left on the eyebrow area of the tanpoints XD It could be seen beneath the black, so definitely red-only.)

Meykka In reply to FRivArts [2012-11-18 16:49:32 +0000 UTC]

I thought siamys like a mask in the 'order' it's over the base coat but under the white
but since it's a whole gene I don't plan on making it be affected by dilution or liver or grey -I thought about making it like a mutation of mask but I want it to be only black-, and I want it to appear over all base red or black, so it doesn't go in the category of any of the dog gene I know

same for autumn, it's its own thing because I didn't want it to be restricted like red so it is some kind of red mutation But affected by dilution and grey, but it's not black nor red and it is a recessive base coat, the gene would be the lowest in the A series, you can have dog being autumn carrier thus. But since it doesn't express at all when heterozygous it can't appear as tanned/grizzle/urajiro at would always be taking over.

I hope what I say is understandable

FRivArts In reply to Meykka [2012-11-21 14:37:00 +0000 UTC]

Black is a whole gene by itself, too XD But I get it, dun worry.

I mentioned autumn because you put dd (which is a dilution that affects black) and ee (recessive red, which wouldn't allow agouti to show at all because of it's nature as a black/red alternation of color). So, for storm hounds, it's Ay, at, a, au?

All but the last part makes a decent amount of sense. Tanpoint is an agouti, so's Autumn, so it wouldn't show through tan. Without tanpoint, grizzle won't show. But urajiro is separate. Urajiro affects any dog that expresses red hairs, those with phalomelanin. If autumn is a black, or at least not a red, it makes sense, but it's apparently "both and neither" and I don't know what that means XD

Meykka In reply to FRivArts [2012-11-21 17:10:57 +0000 UTC]

yeah like so

For Automn I was rather imagining the hair being a gradient of colour, and mainly the length of the hair make one of the colour show more -so brown/reddish base, then yellow, then kind of golden ect- (I'm also thinking to make really long hair go back to reddish afterward cause red tip would be fun xP )
The problem you see, is that you try to compare it, you shouldn't, it's new gene, I have rules for it to express on the coat, rules for what other existing gene are affected by it and those it is affected by, it is not logical colourwise I know, but I want it that way so it will be it -that's the good stuff with stuff you create yourself lol- I know putting it in the A series might not be the best thing, but since it's closer to the reds in colour I thought I could put it there (and autumn start with a A in French and English xD -to make letters for gene without bothering of the others I often use the beginning of the french one-)Just take it as it is ;3 (I could make a nice math comparaison but I'm not sure anyone would get a math images lol )

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FRivArts In reply to Meykka [2012-11-21 22:00:09 +0000 UTC]

'Tis true, but I kept asking cause red and black have more to do with the pigment than the genes themselves. Many genes use them, but dogs carry just phalomelanin and eumelanin, but if it's it's own pigment, is ok with me~

Sounds like fun~ If you ever do make that longhair, you know who'll want one first ;D That's an easy way to think of it =3

I also nag cause I need to be sure that they can't carry another agouti. When I first saw it, I thought it was a whole new gene~ And just to be double sure, is it an ee for sure?

Depends what kind of math? XD

cream is for grizzle or tan, it makes the red creamy

When I get more points, I'm grabbing one of each color that I yet don't have up~ Love the lycaos XD Can't stop! The lycaos imports have one copy of it, right? So a pair can make lycaos and plains?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Meykka In reply to FRivArts [2012-11-18 16:52:25 +0000 UTC]

I gave you choice for lycaos, cause there is not really maximal lycaos marking, but there is minimal one -just over the legs- so when it's minimal it's heterozygous, and otherwise I just pick one random usually.

M'kay.

Requesting permission for my liver and blue to carry blue and liver respectively for maximum variation in litters? Also, are all imports homozygous black/homozygous red or can some of them have reds/black respectively?

Meykka In reply to FRivArts [2012-11-21 16:54:16 +0000 UTC]

sure sure, since you know your stuff you can play with geno on your import =3 (I usually don't put carrier cause lots of peps could not understand how it works even more since it's all recessive stuffs x.x)

if I don't detail, you can have any geno you'll like as long as the phenotyp is good and the passing of the marking is as I stated -or let you choose in your case lol-

And cream is ce. I've seen c hold the place for albino if you're considering it possible, but nobody's seen an actual albino dog, just albinoid, so you won't see it much. Having just plain c may also imply that it's the most recessive in the series. cp Platinum is.

^^

Meykka In reply to FRivArts [2012-11-15 18:01:04 +0000 UTC]

I know -I retained your lesson èé- but since there will be no albino and I don't plan on complicating the genotyp even more, I use c for all the creamy stuff lol instead of ce or cp or the gold one -I don't remember how you wrote this one...- cream is mainly the general colour, after there are various shades P=

FRivArts In reply to Meykka [2012-11-15 20:53:39 +0000 UTC]

Cch is gold cause it stands for chinchilla, e for cream cause cr would look funny, admittedly, and p for platinum

Okay, that works, too =3
It's okay if I alter them for my own use, though?

Meykka In reply to FRivArts [2012-11-16 16:40:46 +0000 UTC]

yeah sure, I design generaly, after I know people will change to suit their style and for facility so as long as the general design is the same it's good -that's also why I always only design one side -

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

FRivArts In reply to Meykka [2012-11-16 23:01:04 +0000 UTC]

I meant using the genotypes I use for all my dogs, except with the unique genes added. So that cream is ce so I don't have a brainfart moment in the future.

Marking : Lycaos + Siamys

Yay, they're here! And I have points~

I knew I should have ordered a trio originally ='D
Does the promotional price still count if I order a lycaos+siamys?

I'll need more of them later. Yes, need XD If I were to order an autumn lycaos, is that 40 (20 per special) or is it 20 (for rarity overall)?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Meykka In reply to FRivArts [2012-11-15 18:06:55 +0000 UTC]

so lycaos liver with creamy grizzle & lycaos siamys blue with grizzle or sable creamy marking ?

you got promotion price for your first three -you lucky xD- it means 10 for regular and 15 for those with the specific gene, and it's the same price if you want two or three specific stuff lol

so lycaos siamys or autumn lycaos is 15 (20 if it's for your 4th one and after)

Yeah >w< When I get livers or blues, I usually give them the opposite to surprise people with isabellas. In the case of my capos, a pair of nothing-but-isabellas, I gave them red to carry, so they magicked up quite a few goldens, a cream, and platinums. Funny, but true to life, ain't it?
