Description I just got back, from this little known abandoned city in the middle of Jordan (about an hour south of Amman), and boy was i surprised! I thought i was going to see a few buildings in a field, but once you drive around a hill, you arrive at this really large walled city, filled with Byzantine churches and homes complete with mosaics!

Great shot! I love old architecture and exploring old places! This pathway and steps under the archway looks very inviting!

I want to go! That would be so amazing, to be able to just walk around history like that with hardly anyone around. I love the perspective in this shot, but i'd like to know what that little alcove was for

well I'll have to check it out but i suspect it might have been for light/lantern, since this was a bustling christian city with around five churches , people would have been awake all night, it could also possibly be a mini shrine type, a cross or a small figure of Mary could have been placed there

Hmm how fascinating.... I'd love to sit on the wall and ponder that for a few hours

Ah, how did I miss this one? Wonderful angle on it. But I adore the colours, the subtle sand with a little hint of soft green. So beautiful.

why thank you, you should have seen the place, it was one of the first untouched places i managed to find, in fact it isn't even on some maps yet... so beautiful so untouristified

Ah, really? Damn, I just love the idea that some maps don't even include, that sounds so incredibly pristine and exotic. Gotta put it on my to-go list

too late!! the government has decided to make it a tourist attraction and now are currently fixing it up, but no worries there are many more hidden treasures

Typical. Stupid government, always on the lookout for new untouched places to turn into a spoilt tourist spot We'll have discover the news ones, then
