I turned my head away from the show-gals, whom were blowing their damned buds in my direction…gah….But on the swell side there was the crazy amount of swing playing in the background making the speakeasies bop and bounce! I was pretty sure the cops would show up but then again the big cheese knew people…
“(L/n)! Hurry up and get your ass down here! We need you in lime light!” I sighed and opened my eyes. The smell of smoke and sweat wafted into my nose; the dark yet addicting realm I was in caused me to shiver in sudden excitement when I heard my name called.
“I’m coming! Hey, Emily! Do you have any clue what we’re singing tonight?” I heard the older girl giggle before patting my back roughly. It was my first night in a long time and I was slightly nervous, I suppose the adrenaline hadn’t kicked in yet.
“Above my pay grade baby doll! But I’m sure they’ll go doll dizzy over you! Now go get em’ hotshot!” I felt a sudden gust of encouragement run through me like the wind. I giggled and high fived her earning a smack on the tush from my party crazed companion.
“Thanks Emily! You’re just what I needed!” She smiled proudly before shoeing me off onto the stage. I was dressed and ready to do the lulu!
I squinted trying to get used to the sudden intake of light that hit my eyes quickly, when I opened them I saw a large crowed of peppers just staring at me like I was some kind of call-girl! But I ignored them and waited for my music to begin, setting myself up for the make it or break it moment….I was almost positive there were a few critiques in tonight!
I was going to make it big and live the American dream to become a legend!

“Get your damn head from the edge of the floater Yong Soo.” I looked over to my brother and sent him a shy look before sucking in the salt filled air. It was so reassuring! Reminding me that I was in fact not in Korea anymore. We’d finally made it! We’d made it to the land of opportunity! We were in—
“—AMERICA! PLEASE SET YOUR BELONINGS ONTO THE RAFTS BELOW!” I simply sighed before smiling up at the large eggshell colored moon. I felt a tap at my shoulder and then the pull of my ear.
“I still can’t believe you got me to come with you..” I just pushed him from off of me and walked back over to the railings on the edge. I saw other kids a few years younger then me as they looked out to the lady liberty with twinkles in their eyes, I probably looked just the same.
“Just hurry and take a mental picture and then find me down here…. Our compartment is just over there.” I watched as Yao outstretched his hand until meeting with his pointer finger. For as far as I could see from the docks I saw a two-story building, an unforgiving blue stone color.
“Are you going to ask me why I chose that one, aru?” I felt my eyes dim slightly when I thought of the reasons, I sighed and waved him off. I could careless why he bought it since I only needed a place to stay until I became famous!
“Tch! I’m going to tell your unforgivable ass reasons why anyway! One, it was very cute and blah, blah, blah…” I tuned him out; the loud music that blared from many of the speakeasies helped; glowing happily against the deep blue of the Atlantic ocean stole my attention immediately.
“Ah ….this is where I’m suppose to be. In the city of lights, under the American skies of opportunity, da-ze….” I smiled deeply and tilted my head up to meet up with the pale moon yet again, wishing—no, knowing that just maybe, I’d be able to succeed my long awaited career here. I would have my own American dream.
Yes….a legend.
