That just reminds me of something, it's possible that you have a similar problem in Danish :'D
So in German we have "Du" and "Sie" both are translated to you. One is more formal, you use that when you don't know someone or when talking to your boss. "Du" is used for friends, family and people who are ok with that. So when you have a friend you know for years, how do you address their parents? Do you say "du" or "Sie"? To avoid that problem you restructure your sentences to avoid using it, so instead of saying like "Can you hand me the butter" you go by "someone hands me the butter, please" :'D

I see, so you're just "friends" with everyone x'D
I feel like the younger generation also often just uses "du" and no formal speech anymore, but wit my generation there it is still present :'D
smøret that sounds great x'D

yup basically x'D hahahah
Here even my generation are mostly using 'du' :'D I am technically also a younger generation x'D (two years or so :'D?) so it makes sense x'D
Smør - that's our butter x'D it is so far from the English word it is kind of funny :'D

it's funny you are a year younger than me, but still belong to the younger generation x'D
oh it's Smør x'D we also have "Butter" as butter, but we pronounce it differently. but we have "schmieren" (butter up) which reminds me of "Smør" :'D
